I have Vista Ultimate Aswell, very fast, efficient, nice layout, nice new features, very easy navigation. better network support, better use of graphics. Doesn't jam my pc cos of the overclocked 4ghz and 3gb ram, is superb. The only reason people don't like to admit liking vista is because its designed by microsoft and everyone on the internet for some reason hates microsoft. I love their products and Visual Studio is great for coding c# in. Bring on Halo3
i got a new sony with vista preinstalled. if xp drivers available i be reverting to xp anytime. why can't sony make drivers for xp!
Personally, I don't want a computer at offices or at home where performance can rely on graphic cards etc. Also, I don't need fancy visual effects for work purposes. I'm on XP, but use windows 2000 bars etc.
Yeh, but why not just turn the visual effects down? This can be done very easily! I havea second pc running Vista Ultimate with 1.8ghz processor and 51
Cleartype - Sorry, but have you seen it up close? On XP, if text is black, it's actually black. On Vista, it's pink with a pinch of black and it literally makes me want to pluck out my eyes. Lack of driver support (not really Vista's fault) - I have spent thousands of dollars on audio equipment that will probably never be Vista-compatible
Unlike you or the people who have computers powerful enough to use Vista, not everyone is wealthy enough to afford performance machines. I also don't have to use anything from Microsoft. I'm still working on converting to Fedora Core (linux). Even though a lot of games still aren't compatible, its still much friendlier and faster than Windows. And, as my friend has said: "Microsoft gives you windows, Linux gives you the whole damn house!"
If your not into gaming Linux is all you really need. Most people ( about 90% ) use there computers to surf the internet and write e-mails. If your using Vista to do this what a waste of money.
I also bought vista ultimate when it came out, all my software and hardware works with it and I haven't had no problems what so ever. Dont understand how people can moan.
my laptop has vista home and my desktop runs xp pro. i like vista, but i like xp pro better. the uac is very annoyin, disabling it requies too much time. Plus adobe photoshop 7 does not wok on vista... or at least i cant get it to run. (even in xp pro sp2 mode)
I have Vista on my laptop, but I might format it and install XP. I find that I am much more productive in XP in regards to web development/affiliate marketing. However, I do love the new sound mixer in Vista, 100% improvement over XP. Using winamp in XP messes my system sound up, so some things are too loud. I.e. playing games/listening to music quietly in the background/talking on teamspeak/vent. Much easier to do in Vista.
I'm using a laptop, and Vista is harder on the battery as well as heat, because it's always doing something. There's also the issue of slow file copying, which will be fixed in SP1. There's also more issues with hibernating/sleep modes which is crucial when using a notebook on the batteries. Vista has potential, but it needs a few more months of fixes before being better than XP.
You would think that with 5 years in development Microsoft could have done a better job on Vista. You would think that Microsoft would have learned by now that bloated ware is really a good way to invite Crackers ( the evil hackers ). I guess everybody knows this but Microsoft.
Guess what? I can do all that on my laptop running XP! Why should I upgrade to a crappy, bloated, expensive, DRM-filled OS? QFT WOW! Linux can already do that! With only the very minor problem that nothing uses it. How is pretty graphics and a lot of bloat "cool"? What little things? The start menu doesn't seem much improved to me, just slower to use. Count the number of viruses and then compared to linux. My laptop runs on a 2.0ghz Pentium M with 2gb of RAM. Why should I upgrade? It's ridiculous to say that we should all constantly buy bigger and better pcs just because half of the resources are being eaten by the OS. I could run it fine, but I choose not too and I never will. No, it is anything but fast and efficient, how is "nice new features" a feature? The navigation is basically the same as XP, the graphics make no difference. Neither does it jam mine, but that doesn't mean I don't mind the bloat.
I'm running XP. It runs smooth, it runs the programs I want it to, and there's no reason that I can think of for switching to Vista. If I get a good reason, I'll switch.
Just for the Vista sidebar... it is taking 300MB to run. That is completely absurd. Linux does many of the things AERO does with much less resources. What you need 2GB to do on a VISTA machine, you can do it with 512MB with Linux... with room to spare. Just like with all M$ products... it's bloatware.
