Dedicated Hosting and DNS

Hi guys, I recently got a dedicated plan. Now I had no idea that I would have to configure DNS servers myself. The hosting company says, they will charge $90 for this! Are they right? They give me another option of going managed server which I don't think I will. Does anyone know how to setup the DNS within my server? It's a Plesk CP.

Yep, when you have a dedicated server, YOU have to manage it

if you have a dedicated server with CP, i would suggest adding in a website with that domain name, and then add in 2 entrys for your dns hosts, and make sure you register them as nameservers with your domain name providier. That would be the easiest way to do it.

Thanks, that's the problem, I do not know how to do add entries. Is there a tutorial on how to do that in Plesk? Also, does the registrar charge for nameservers?

Login to plesk as admin...under server, you have dns templates. Edit the ns records with the ones you created at your registrar.

You can also manually edit each and every domain's ns records if you have added them already and they aren't correct.

agnivo, thank you! My host was going to charge $90 to do that. It says a lot about that host. I am going to switch after.
    Thanks again.

Glad that it worked for you! If you're going to switch providers, you can consider going with dedicatedbox.net (comes with free plesk).

    Here's my DedicatedBox.net Review :)

if your registrar includes dns services in the domain name you purchased and their nameservers are reliable, that may be a viable option for you. It also lightens the load on your own server.

No need to setup DNS server. By default... Plesk does it all. You do not need to look at any code.

Plesk is by far the BEST control panel I have ever used. Better than cPanel and DA too.
