Actually, he did. He bought 800 tickets to give away. Not as many as some, but then he doesn't have the same budget either. Pretty sure I read a report that he was serving up food as well. The worst thing I read though, was dishonest RP supporters (is there any other kind?) suggesting Iowans take Romney's tickets/bus rides and then vote for RP. Pretty scuzzy, but not surprising coming from RP supporters.
Paul's grassroots (not affiliated) supporters bought hundreds of tickets for voters with their private fundraising efforts. But Paul bought the minimum 800 tickets a candidate is REQUIRED to purchase. Not a ticket more. 800 tickets? @ $35? Are we talking about $28k? Pork Politics Romney spent $4 million and bought 5,000 tickets. Here is some simple math for you. 5000 Romney tickets, less 800 Paul tickets = 4,200 votes. 4516 Romney votes, less 1305 Paul votes = 3,211 votes. If Paul had bought as many tickets as Romney, he probably would have won.
Oh ya, cause that there Fox News makes everything up... Dude, you already proved you are an idiot.. Quit while you are ahead..
Not affiliated? That's kinda funny, actually! Interesting. I was not aware of this. So RP minions tried to buy the vote for RP because he's underfunded? They tried to sway the vote, like they do with online polls that never reflect reality? As for the other numbers, I've not seen any source to verify them, but I do find it interesting that in addition to their dishonest tactics (urging others to take Romney's tickets/bus rides - a simple courtesy), they also tried to buy the vote for RP. Umm, umm, ummm. What a shame!
You seem to have some serious issues with RP. With the "9/11 conspiracy" aside, what about this candidates platform do you have issues with? You heard about RP long before I did. From what I have seen he seems to be very consistent when it comes to supporting the constitution, not raising taxes, and seeking a smaller government. To me he doesn't seem like the typical politician we have these days. I've only recently learned of RP and his platform. What would you say someone just learning about RP should take into account when considering RP for President?
Be honest... do you really think democrats are worried about a republican winning the whitehouse again? GWB has become ineffective and won't even be able to help a single republican this season. He's just counting down the days till he can get the hell outta there. All agendas halted. He's not even trying anymore... The fear and taxes campaign Rove tried to run on the country in 06 simply doesn't work anymore. The Democratic control over the house and senate are glaring unspinnable proof of that. And let's face it... they just don't have anything else.... sorry I didn't post any snarky comments in this post because I truly want your honest opinion on this. Do you really believe that??
I think you are right on that. Many if not most American's are tired of having the current administration tell them to be afraid. The only thing we really need to be afraid of is the loss of liberty during the Bush Administration.
You find the laws funny? Paul doesn't coordinate his meetup groups or grassroots people. There are pragmatic and legal reasons why. Paul's not underfunded. He doesn't try to buy votes. And say what you want about his minions, they didn't buy tickets (afaik) to bus people in. They bought tickets for Iowan students who could not afford to go. Say what you want, but Paul came in 5th, campaigned in state for less than a week, and spent relatively nothing. It's a pretty big victory for his campaign, to go from 1 or 2% in national polls to 10% in a straw poll. I can understand how a grass roots, guerilla campaign would upset your coiffed Romney, hard talking Giuliani reality but it's becoming an undeniable fact (even for neo-cons like you who live in a constant state of denial). Paul has arrived, and his campaign is starting to take off.
Yes, I listened to Keith Olbermann and his coherts last night say just that on "Countdown". "Ineffective" in what? "Just counting down the days"... Sounds like you were watching Olbermann too... Don't you have any original thoughts of your own? Next time you are going to quote someone, use the quotation marks and give them credit... Wow, all that democrat control and they have yet to do anything with it... It sure does not look like they are in control to me... Not by a long shot. No, I do not believe that.. You did not express a signle original thought or your own opinion. You replaced your thoughts with things you watched on TV. Two of your statements are verbatim what came out of the mouths of people on "Countdown with Keith the tard Olbermann" last night.... To the letter... Nice try.
The 9/11 lunacy plays a big role. Pandering to alex jones and his gullible followers. Very very weak on foreign policy. As we learned a week or so ago, RP's answer to a terrorist attack would be to sit down at the typewriter and issue a strongly worded letter. I couldn't even imagine something like that. His platform indicates to me he is very, very weak on national defense. A very, very important issue facing our country. He's aligned with and participated in absolute kookery. Former Ron Paul Campaign Coordinator Declares Against Him
Moral equivalence seems to be the designated strategy this evening. Do you take issue with Romney for helping others, or do you take issue with RP? Pretty much the same for guerilla's hypocrisy above, as well. RP gets a pass, his minions get a pass. Hypocrisy makes an excellent midnight snack
And it's just coincidence that Dondero is going to run against Paul for Congressman in the 14th (?) district. Whatever, a lot of hot air, no worse than what Sean Hannity had to say after the debate. Anyone who considers RP a traitor, doesn't even have a basic grasp on the concept of liberty.
You lost me here. Are you saying that Romney and Paul are equal in their campaigns? Their spending, their methods and their strategy? Because if they aren't, then I am no hypocrite. So please explain yourself clearly.
Here is something interesting. In the 2004 Presidential election approximately 1.5 million Iowans voted. Bush got just under 752,000 votes. Kerry got just under 741,000 votes. There were under 15,000 votes cast in the straw poll. It is amazing how such a small number of votes can have such a potentially large impact. That is 1% of the total vote and 2% of the republican vote. Romney got a boost. Huckabee got a boost. Tommy Thompson dropped out. Rudy and McCain avoided participating, probably for fear of doing badly or not having or willing to put in the cash resources to compete. The tiny vote totals of the straw poll have a big impact in ultimately impacting who runs, who looks good, who gets press, etc.
Does it really? Huckabee came in second, mainly on the fair tax bus, though. I don't see him moving anywhere in the polls. He was the most impressive (in my eyes) during the debates. At best, he's a VP candidate, not a prez candidate. If Romney won the straw poll, but didn't do as well as expected (which was about 31-32%), he'd actually look worse for winning. I don't see any benefit to winning this thing; at least any more. Maybe a few cycles ago.
