Old maan-- as you are aware of my freakish things -- I agree with you -- that PR/SERPs/Backlinks count little for a site being an authority. I saw sites with few thousand links on Site-explorer being authority. Also I know some PR3 sites that are authority. However -- I believe age is a factor --along with contents. The younest site I have come across was when one site got authority status @ 10 months --( owner of that site is one of us -alpna ). I saw it on V7N forum.
NP John. like I've said the next one might be 2yi and romow and don't forget the qbc directory. Its might get it as being a dark horse.
"Authority" is related to keywords too. Check this search: Conneaut Lake Park The site has a total of 26 backlinks in Google. I think people are mis-intrepreting those indents a bit.
hello, welcome back, my internet was down for 12 days last month, i guess you also have BSNL!! anyways, i do agree, this is all mystery! when i search by "aviva directory" it comes with those sub listings, but when i search by "aviva web directory" it comes as simple listings!
I think the basic idea is that if a site has those indents they're to be considered an "authority website." This infers that a link from them is somehow superior to a site that isn't an authority website. Frankly, I feel this is just marketing. I have found websites with one backlink that have indented listings.
Damned silly thing to do in my mind. How do they get away with it? I have seen the same thing on one of my sites and immediately started panicking.
And those that have swallowed these fishermans tales hook, line and sinker, how do they feel? This sort of nonsense just discredits everything they are working to build and invest in.
Read this -- as far as my study goes --I have found this to be the earliest to use the [/QUOTE] Do a lot of study -N-research --and you will not post all these things!!!!!!! You would say that --as everything with Google algo -- its a mystery. Believe me- I have been studying the phenomenon for some time now-- and I still don't have a slightest clue. Its easy to say something without knowing-- but its difficult to say something after a through study. @ Uttoronsen-- Buddy- I am sorry to say that -- I have no other alternative in my place but to use BSNL -- dial-up with 31.3 kbps
Those "sub-listings" are called sitelinks. They don't indicate an authority site. Google explains sitelinks here:http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=47334 best, Denise
You are absolutely right. Just because those sites have site links shown are not authority sites. There is no-such words as authority sites in Google's dictionary. So there is no authority sites on the net at all. Its just a myth --webmasters have created and is first found on Webmasterworld forum on authority site related threads --the term has neither been enodrsed or denied by what they call Googleman on that forum.
I wonder if Aviva will correct its list and acknowledge the mistake they have made? It just goes to show how easy it is to misread these things and become confused.
I never knew anything about a site's authority status till Aviva got it but so far what i've noticed is that Google awards authority status to a site when #1: It passes a certain age factor (very new sites are not authority mostly) #2: When it gets viewed alot or it passes a certain amount of high traffic for a consistent (long) period of time. I took this assumption from a few sites that i know of who got authority status don't know when but there main point is off course age (above 2 years) and traffic.
I also though that the sitelinks indicate the "authority" status, of website, before my site gets this status. Take a look here http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=digixmas . Here are few "factors" of my site: 1. Age: about 1 years, 20 days. 2. PageRank: PR3. 3. Backlinks: 36 shown in google search with link: , and about 4200 shown in Google webmaster tool. 4. Traffic: 109,747 . It implies that they don't mean anything more than sitelinks only .
Dmoz is an authority site. It is recognised by Gogle as such and a link from Dmoz does wonders for your serp's. Not so the directories on Aviva's list. Its just wishful thinking. I have seen at least one of my directories recognised in this way and my directories could never be described as Authority Sites.
When does one qualify for a signature? But its not really relevant to this discussion as I cant remember which one it was. Thought I had done something wrong at the time. But I can assure you that none of the sites I have set up are authority sites. More than two years old maybe but certainly not in the same league as Dmoz.
