Well I'll give you a review. I have purchased IndexU and had little problems setting it up. So far I can see how powerful this script is. I have PHPLD and Esyndicat scripts also. I'm really impressed so far. Yes it cost a bit more than the 2 mentioned above. However it is far more worth the extra money. All those mods I have been buying for my PHPLD Directory are all ready installed on IndexU. The forums do lack support however the support ticket system is top notch. I had a few questions and all were answer within an hour. A few were asked late at night and still got answers...Way to go IndexU Thus far I would put my money on IndexU. An excellent product and has everything you need to operate a powerful directory. Keep your eyes on this one. I have a feeling it's going to be very popular script.
I would agree with you spin. Indexu is a very good script with lots of options already included and it works flawlessly. I have never had bot submission or spam problems with the script either...unlike a few of the other scripts which tend to get plagued by the bots. I've only used their ticket system once and like you...I too was responded to very promptly. I have two sites running Indexu and I would never consider replacing them with any of the other scripts out there today. tom

Hi, I am looking for a directory script. right now to experiment with. Has anyone had in-depth experience with IndexU and Gossamer? If so, I would like to hear a comparison in regards to: 1) Stability/reliability 2) Support 3) Spam Protection an any other major differences in features that you have discovered. Also, I am wondering why the Top Rated, Editors Pick, Hot etc. should take so long? I understand why if it is really doing a scan, but it should be possible to dynamically change these lists as updates are being made to the database, thereby avoiding a scan. Am I missing something? no exp. with Gossamer but I have a few IndexU sites. I would definitely recommend it. With regards to the Top Rated/Editors Pick/Hot items...it is configurable to cache for xx time (24hrs/30 minutes etc). This drastically speeds up these searches as they can be intensive on the DB running the queries. I have a one site in particular that runs a custom DB using IndexU with about 2.3mil links....it prrrs along like a champ. No spam problems ever. Never had any problems with stability and the support is good. Might take a few hours but that's due to time zone diffs. Dody is quick to help and the support forum is pretty good. Just a note that the Nicecoder.com site was down for a while recently due to a hack. Their back online now. If you buy, be sure to grab the coupon from "nicecoders" signature. tom
Hi Tom, Thanks for your response. Can you explain, or is there a link to some documentation that explains, how IndexU combats spam and bots? Also, is there a way to to incorporate Aksimet or some anti-spam plug-in like Bad Behavor (both very popular with blogs) into IndexU. Possibly in the next version, the author of the program can come up with a more convenient architecture for the Top Rated, Editor Picks , Hot, etc. lists. I think it is rather straightforward to maintain a separate database table with these lists that can be updated dynamically as the base tables are updated. Of course, such feature might have to be turned off during bulk loads. I like the way IndexU looks and its architecture. Particularly caching of pages and the ability to add custom fields. Are there any other features that are particularly interesting and useful that I might not find in other products? I would appreciate responses from any members of this group. Thanks. Rich

If I move ahead with IndexU, I will pursue the possibility of incorporating either Akismet or Bad Behavior.
