Do you do the fake cough around smokers?

it rarely helps though, so I just have to tell them to go smoking outside

 

When i was a kid and probably even in my teens i was the biggest hater of smokers.... in the van's or bus whenever someone would light up a cig, i would like cough and cough as much as that would make the Uncle's feel embarrass and hold me if i am alright and throw the smoke out he he he!!!

 

I lost a ot of family members to lung cancer due to years of smoking. I said I would never smoke. I never have. I probably couldn't because of the smell. Most of the restaurants in Chicago are non-smoking so the only time I really come in contact with it is when I am walking the gauntlet through the front door.

That being said. A large portion of my retirement funds are invested in Altria (Phillip Morris). The ROI has been awesome.

I think it is really rude to do the fake cough.. just my opinion.

Why not just move away or ask them to put it out, rather do the fake cough.

I used to smoke cigs for 8 years and didn't like it when people did the fake cough, especially when I was outdoors and the person was walking by me...

If you are somewhere that someone shouldn't be smoking and they are, then yeh, do whatever because that person is in the wrong anyway. But do think about just confronting them rather the "fake cough".. its weak..

It was hard.

I first tried the gum but it didn't work because I would chew so much that I would get the hiccups really, really bad. So then I switched to the patch and that worked for me. The only thing is that the patch gives you crazy dreams when you sleep.

 

No because I know people who smoke and I wouldn't do it infront of them.

On second thought I have done it when people are smoking in no smoking areas like right outside airports and stuff.

I have an asthma and have always found people very inconsiderate when they smoke around public places. I eventually learned that using a very simple sign language will do the magic.

 

No, I usually ask them for a light! I am trying to quit, but it has been tough. I guess I just have to make up my mind and stick to it.

I am a smoker but in public areas I do this when I see someone smoking.

 

I don't care so-much about the smoking in public areas, yeah it's bad but it's not THAT bad.

However I did get really pissed off once when I was standing on the subway platform waiting for the train. A girl was smoking, in a restricted area, and if that wasn't bad enough she didn't even put the butt out.. She flicked it into a trash can full of newspapers..

I walked up to her, asked if she just threw a lit but into a public trash can, knowing she did, then told here it was a really dumb thing to do..

Then I walked to the nearest MBTA official and told them to check the trashcan incase of a smoldering fire.. Then I boarded my trian.

I don't think it's a fake cough when I cough around smokers I try to keep it discreet... but the smoke

 

Someone did that at my college. I went outside to wait for my ride and noticed it was really smokey ... looked around and found the trashcan on fire.

Some guy and I watched it while waiting for someone to come put it out (after we told someone about it). Thankfully it didn't catch anything else on fire, just melted the inside of the trashcan.

I guess who ever did it didn't notice the two 'No Smoking' signs in the area.

 

Instead of putting up a coughing act why not just tell whoever is smoking to stop doing it around you. I mean... Im a smoker and i try not to smoke around other people (Its easy now when the smoking ban kicked in) and im sure if someone asked me politely to stop smoking around them i would go smoke away from them... When people start fake coughing around me the only thing they are achieving is me thinking:"What an idiot!"...

 

I'm a smoker, and I think this is the stupidest thread ever made on DP.
I don't get what's so bad about the ciggy, everything else we do in life is bad.
And it's not like your going to live forever if you don't smoke..
