Help! My laptop is broken

    Hi,

Yes, this all happened out of stupididy, and I'm really really annoyed with myself. The thing is, that it rained really really heavily, and I left the window opn . I was downstairs watching TV, and meanwhile it was getting soaked. I come back and wipe all the water off it.

It wont start. At this point, I'm not so much worried about my laptop, as what my dad is going to say when he finds out. Thank god, he didn't seem to worry too much. He says let it dry out, and so long as the water was clean it should be OK.

    Is that right?

Yes but you shouldn't try to turn it on till the water is completely dry.
If you tried to turned it on when the water is still there then for sure it won't work. Anyway Good luck.

When you have dried it, just go to a nearby service center. They will be more specific on the solution :)
And dont start it till they confirm that its safe.

It was a bit of an odd thing to do by leaving it where it was in risk of getting rain on it.

Let it dry and turn it on, should work properly :) Never turn it on, when it's wet, remember that next time. Especially, not if you have it plugged directly.

It was sunny all day, and I left it on my desk..which is usually dry even when it rains but this was serious rain :)

It's been about 6 hours now, since the dreadful event took place...is it ready?

I'm using my PC now. :)

If I was you, wait atleast overnight. At the end of the day, it's better to wait a few hours than break the whole laptop!

    I'm hopefully getting a laptop soon, £999 X_X

What's with the fancy for Sony? Sure, they make some of the best electronics in the world - but you could get a lot more 'bang for your buck' if you bought another brand.

Here's the specs of the £999 laptop I plan to get:

Santa Rosa, The New Intel Technology
    Genuine Windows Vistaâ„¢ Home Premium
    Intel® Core™2 Duo 64-Bit T7100
    New Centrino Pro 2 x 1.8Ghz, 4MB Cache
    New Intel® Robson technology
    2GB DDRII Memory
    Now with 160GB Hard Drive
512MB MXM Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT
    Support DirectX10, HDMI ready
    17.1" Widescreen TFT LCD Display
    Super Format DVD WriterNew faster
    Intel 4965ABGN Wireless LAN
Bluetooth, Card Reader & Video Camera
    Free high resolution USB Mouse
    Weight ~3.5Kg ,Battery Life ~ 2.5 hrs

    It's a Mesh GX700 incase you're wondering.

Yeah, those specs pretty much match, except it's smaller and lighter, therefore has a smaller screen.

It's the sony screens that I like :) also "vaio" sounds so cool :) Our 40" TV is sony, as well as blu-ray disk player.

We like them, a well built and trusted make.
