Hi, Blackberrys....they arent the coolest thing for a teenager to have, but hey I need one.I've heard about how people get addicted to them and can't get off.. is this true? I really need one to monitor server uptime and talk to my friend whilst we make our hosting business. We have a customer that might be paying up to $8-9k a month and so we need to be in constant contact with them. I want to get the Curv, it seems the best. If you have one please PM me, I have lots of questions! -Hecky
My brother has a pearl and they're not addictive at all. I think it has a lot to do with the interface - it's very basic when comparing it to an iPhone or a phone running WM5. I own a Dopod 838 Pro running WM5 and I do have to say it is quite addictive, especially considering the infinite amount of crap you can load on it.
I can get one for £55, then I'll choose a £12.99 package which gets unlimited internet, but no texts or calls. Did you know you can get remote desktop for blackberry..that way I can manage all my servers, and use my PC for whenever. Plus it has a full qwerty keyboard . You can get ones with GPS, but that's a waste really...I don't need one.
We use Blackberry's in our hosting company. Does exactly what we need it for, keeping in contact with our internal teams and customers.
Exactly what I need it for, we had one of our test servers go down, and it took 5 minutes to realize, make a phone call and get it put right. Efficient
As far as I know there is RDM. We dont use it though as there is always someone in the D.C. to jump onto any problems. Do you have text alerts setup for your server?
Not yet, but we're looking into it. We definately need some system like that. For now, I have my own website monitor tool that sits on my desktop, when my server goes offline it creates a popup. I developed it myself from Visual Basic.
I highly recommend it when dealing with high profile customers. There are various solutions out there but if you can build your own then go for it.
Also, the remote desktop software, does it use the one built into windows, or is it their own? If you know. -Hecky
