Unusual ways to get traffic to your site

They wouldn't associate it with a urinal.

 

I've seen a juice bar do joint promotion with a website by printing the URL on the lid of the juice cups. (actually I think it was a round piece of paper with a hole in the middle for the straw.

Everytime you go to take a sip from the straw the URL is inches from your face.

 

I have used bumvertising but for my offline business. Very effective.

Sounds like a type of log spamming. So there is another way:

Configure your browser to represent the referrer as yourdomain.com

Anyone webmaster looking at their logs will checkout you site to see where their link is.

 

You may wish to try out SMS advertising targeting specific business type.

 

I would.

My user agent is set to my domain name... not that I visit many sites that would pay attention to it but *shrug* it only took a few moments to set up and I could not think of anything witty to change it to at the time I learned how to do it.

 

You could always pay one of those morons on ebay to foreever tatoo it on their forehead. lol

 

Stamp your URL to a thousand $1 dollar bill

 

-normal-go to your local magazine and buy a spot.

-rare-get a directory and call everyone you can that they must visit your site. hope you dont spend more in calls!

 

Call in to a radio-show that has a topic related to your niche - for example if your site is about cars, call a car-show, if your site is related to computers, call Leo Laporte, etc. Casually mention your website URL on the air... I did this last year and it worked wonders

 

How about put stickers in bus stops or booths where people are waiting for public transportation?

 

How's this one......using a sharpie in a bright color(s), write your url on the bottom of your shoes?

Actually a very good idea, if it's legal! Still good imo...

 

I was going to say sky writer as a joke

but....

...how about a combination of these two ideas, plane + big giant banner + football game (80K people)

might be a lot to have the banner made and the airplane rented though

 

How about it would be pennies, but restricted air space might be an issue... and fees would be HUGE.

How about Stand outside the gate at your local pro football or baseball event (got a sport related site?) and have a huge banner with url, or hand out a coupon and url on printed flyers before entrants get to the paid parking section.
We did this at Disneyland one summer for several days until security found us...

 

I forgot about the airspace thing I bet you are right though
