Hi All, I have recently set up a Digg-like site. Here it is Mindcow.com But there isn't anyone signing up and posting. Any ideas how to market such a site? Thanks in advance.
If you want normal users then you need to advertise it. I mean, real good advertising. Probably giving something that is not available to users would be a nice marketing technique. Personally, as a webmaster I would not post my articles there as there is nothing it will contribute to my website apart from few hits (if any). you have the "out.php?" in all outgoing links, so ofcourse no PR flow first of all.
i signed up!, i was actually just looking for more digg like sites.... PM me i wanna talk to you about a link exchange ?
Hi, Thanks for the advice Care to explain what is the out.php and PR flow? I don't quite understand this part. Thanks again.
wow, great site. Have you used a free script or something, or have you done it all by yourself? Also, th cow picture looks low quality
None of the links to stories that are submitted go directly to the URL, they get routed through your OUT.PHP page... This doesn't help the client-site, as far as backlinks are concerned... You'd get a ton more people submitting sites if you made the story detail pages have direct outgoing links... For example, go to http://www.mindcow.com/story.php?title=Free_Numerology_Name_Analysis_name_interpretation_babies_names_baby_name See the way the link points to http://www.mindcow.com/out.php?title=Free_Numerology_Name_Analysis_name_interpretation_babies_names_baby_name That's not helping the other site...
Tough site to promote I expect there's about 1 new site like this a day popping on the internet. I'd suggest working with personal referrals to obtian stability of activity in the place. Get your friends, relatives, etc to create articles and jump to the site often. It's the best start off for something like this.
Hi Guys, I have just added adsense revenue sharing to it: http://www.mindcow.com This should entice more people to participate.
I see.. I get what you mean. Thanks so much for the observation. I have set the site for direct linking to stories URLs. This should make it more attractive to webmasters.
IMO you need branding. To be honest I didn't understand what's your positioning. I have seen sites that got it right with pligg but they have a good positioning: some speak about deals (dealigg.com) some about hosting deals (hostigg.com). I don't quite see your niche. You need one. Then drop the default skin and put up a new one, a fresh unique one to make you stand from the crowd. I like the idea with the cow, but you need to work it a bit. Don't you know somebody who can draw well? Ask a cow to be designed by hand to make a great logo.
You've got a reason for webmasters to submit their sites, and a reason for non-webmaster users to submit links, now you just need a reason for users to come to your site and participate. You're still a lot further than most people will get.
