Interesting points here, but I have to disagree publicly with quite a few without getting barked;)

First of all, page rank. Page rank means basically the same as what my mortgage appraiser will give anyones homes here- an OPINION! A total opinion in the amount of links from other sites linking in YOUR index and website subpages according to Google updates.

While Google created this exciting ranking fiesta with "Page Rank", the other top 2 search engines(Yahoo and MSN) among others, DISREGARD in many ways the amount of related links you have in order to rank in the top 10 of the famous 3 SERP's.

Many in here could confirm this easily, as most of us can create an Adsense website for say, and later on submit to article directories 30-50 times a month with greatly done SEO articles and still get top 10 positions in profitable keywords and keyphrases from other sites in many ways NOT related to the website being targeted.

The majority can try this, and see top 10 rankings both in the short term and long term with Yahoo and MSN(excluding Google). And while Google is different because of QUALITY links company desires, I should say...Yahoo and MSN almost have half the market!

So pardon my interruption:rolleyes:, but it needed to be completed just a bit. Google wants more quality in the linking, thus getting you higher PAGE RANK and higher potential rankings, and Yahoo and MSN still don't filter 100% how related the sites, again... leaving you open to linking to unrelated sites without getting penalized as of my own testings.

Overdue the internal SEO and Yahoo, MSN and of course Google may get to bite soon enough, but that's just another side of the story!

For me page rank in my sites mean NOTHING. But it influences my linking buying decisions for my sites. Interesting post.

    Good point.

There seems to be a lot of confusion in some of the post on the difference between serp ranking and tool bar page rank a.k.a tbpr

Here's what you need to know about pagerank. ( see http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/more-info-on-pagerank/

#1 -- Page rank measures the importance of this page.
#2 -- By the time you see newer PageRanks in the toolbar, those values have already been incorporated in how we score/rank our search results.

Google combines PageRank with text-matching to return pages that are both important and relevant to the search.

Further, other measures are important in ranking such as trust, authority, and hilltop.

The age of the domain helps build trust. But it is not only the age of the domain that is a factor. Google looks at the age of the content and the age of the links as well.

Why do you think that content depending for PR?Also why age of the website, i nown that PR it's updating every 3-4 months for 1-2 months back, + google need some time until detect new links (time needed to crawl others pages were your link it's on)... But i have 5-6 months old domain name with PR5/PR6 on them and with no content! just the cgi-bin and parent directory apache (Also isn't this dublicated content?! lol)

The PR has been updated already?

This is troubling, as I've acquired quite a bit of links to my website. It has been up for over 3 months, and my pagerank is still 0. Anyone know why this may be?

    Check it out here

I believe that the age of the backlinks and the theme play a part.

i think that getting links is the best way to get PR, but google seems to discourage excessive reciprocal link now

All you need to get good page rank is to have a few links from pages that have good PR.
