i found a lady that said she could get 2 of the web sites i have been working on listed in dmoz for $25 each,
and i am reall excited for cause i have been trying to get listed in there for over a year now, i know its kind of un-ethical to buy your way into the directory but hey, i tried to do it the "correct" way, even tried to become an editor, but nothing worked and am just feed up with it so i thin im going to try and buy my way in now,
Does this seem super un-ethical?

I am not sure how ethical it is but I would make sure she is an editor or you will end up $50 poorer and yelling you have been scammed.

there are other already saying that it is only list and go, or in other term, once you see your site is listed, after a few weeks or months you got de-listed, worthless isn't it?

Dmoz does give a site a boost in the search engine rankings but the value is overstated. Dont waste your time. Its a dinosauer that should have been put to bed years ago and its best ignored or if you must submit and forget.

Sounds like a scam. And not worth $25 even if genuine. Spend the money somewhere more productive.

What is it about being listed in dmoz that you're willing to pay to get in?

You can get far better text links for your money elsewhere.

I agree man, it is damn neer impossible to get listed in DMOZ. all of you who kerep filling up this post with crap like, "why waste your time?", can cry somewhere else. If the dude wants to get listed and he subscribed to this post for instant email, stop listing that he is wasting his time....you are only contributing to his time being wasted. MANY MANY people want to get listed in DMOZ, the problem is that they are just like Comcast Cable; nobody cares about the customer anymore. NOBODY. So I challenge you, all of you;
DO YOU KNOW HOW TO GET LISTED IN DMOZ?

Sleep with a Meta? Become a Meta? Buy AOL?

Seriously, there is no "sure way" to get listed, in fact, you have a better chance of NOT getting listed.

As for us that have said "don't waste your time" it's not about wasting our time, it's about saving so many from wasting theirs. I personally have nothing better to do then sit here telling you all how it is. Thats why I became an editor in the first place...but once I saw how it was there, I stepped off the sinking ship and now use the time I could have been including sites to help people know that it does not really matter.

Well, I do'nt know about ethical or not, but if you want to get your site listed, that may be the only way to go.

My site is already in the spotlight there, so I don't think I can buy my way in right now.

I mean, u can have the best site in the world, which offers different, unique, diverse content and still have a slim chance of getting it listed.

An editor or someone on their team said the following

Not an exact quote, but very similar,

I suggested, if this is the case, then It may be in your best interest to get rid of that submission form that they have and just let the editors go out and find the sites on their own.

So take a good word of advice. Don't leak out your site name or anything. Pay the $25.00 p/site, I was approached by someone last year wanting $500 for my site and I told him that your out of your mind.

If they don't list it, you can always dispute the payment from paypal.

I agree with Adnan, paying is about the only way your likely to get included. With 75,000 editors, it's quite funny the limited work they do.

So don't disclose your site, pay the $25 for one and see how it goes.

75,151 editors (the number that shows on the dmoz.org homepage) is the number of editors accepted since the beginning of the project - not the number of current editors. The majority of these editors timed out before logging in, lost interest after they got their site listed, were removed, got bored, or found out they had a real life.

I would fair to say that that number is well below 1,000 now.

I just find it funny that when all this time, I was saying that the real number is between 200-500, all the editors were disagreeing with me. ;)

How many times do I have to prove that you are a nobody who likes to pretend he is important?
You are wasting your time anyway since your masters are too busy spamming wikipedia to notice your efforts and throw you a bone. ;):D
