So.. I've been collecting/buying directory designs for a few months now, and its about that time I code'em. My question is - should I get them sponsored and release them for free or should I just sell them? I know it may depend on the template itself, but I'm confident the designs are top quality and so is my coding. I guess I'm just trying to get feel for what directory owners like to see... Thanks in advance for your comments...
Why not code them out and try to sell them and if that does not work sell the sponsorships and release them for free. I personally am interested in buying unique coded designs without any sponsorships. Just my 2 cents.
I believe your only goal is to get your money out and earn some for coding work. In that case set realistic prices for each template depending on quality and time spent on it. Full price if you are selling and 2 times 50% if you are selling 2 sponsors spots. So, it should be same. If you are looking to build some links and do promotion for your directory, put one link for yourself and sell 2nd one. Even better, if you can afford it, make just one footer link-more people will use template. You should get more money from directory sales than from selling templates, but only in long run and if you know what you are doing. Hope this helps.
speaking of unique designs, I am looking for one for my web directory. Let me know if anyone has some for sale without sponsorship links. Thanks!
balkanboy has explained it all I will just say that if you are considering to go with "Sponsored link", make sure the max links are 2. ... (2+ is a big No No to me and I am sure to many others) Selling template as a whole will not be bad idea. But it all depends on Design & Coding together. Do let me know when you are ready to go with it
Selling the templates will bring some nice $$$, but 1 sponsor link could bring in as much $$$. It will also give you nice backlinks - which can improve your SE rankings.
Will definitely let you know - thanks for your comments. Yeah - I'll see how it goes - thanks for your comments.
