How can I prevent spammed comments?

I am getting at least 10 spam comments a day on my blog and al they are is strings of keywords and links to sex and warez sites. I already have it set up so I moderate all comments that dont already have an approved comment or use certain words but its kinda annoying to have to continuely delete all the spam comments.

Is there anyway to block just the spambot and not other robots?

I like using Spam Karma which gives me a great deal of flexibility in terms of checking comments for spam comment. It captures practically everything - especially after you crank up the default settings.

The akismet plugin will definitely help. Are you using WP?

The best thing to do is to use Akismet and report all spam comments that pass through.

    I recommend Spam Karma 2.
Got better results than Akismet on the long run.. especially if you play with the configuration.

most spammed comments come via trackbacks, unless you use trackbacks turn them off and the spam should reduce.

    I use Dave's Spam Karma -

I found it one day after being really annoyed by over 100 blog spams. Since I installed it, almost 8,000 spams have been "eaten" on my blog at: airbrushtour.com

I can't say enough good about SpamKarma. Install it and leave it alone. It never eats comments that have "good karma". Just the bad ones.

(I just tried to paste the link to Dave's Spam Karma in this post, but I'm too new to do that. PM me if you want the direct link)
