Should I register this domain?

I found a single word domain consisting of only two syllables. It is a Latin word, but there is a huge market for the English translation of the word.

The .com, .org, .us, .co.uk, .de, .eu, .mobi, and .info versions of this name are taken, but the .net version is available! Would the .net version of this name be valuable?

Yes, should be a good buy. Sounds like it anyway.
It's after all only 7 bucks.

Anyway, take a look at the .com, .org etc. Are they developed sites or are they parked pages with the owners hoping to sell. That should give you a clue:rolleyes:

if you register, let us know what name it is.:)

Is it good if they are parked pages or not? A few of the name's extensions are developed, but most are either parked or don't pull up anything. The .net name has been registered before and was used for an automotive dealership in Germany from 2003 to 2004. No backlinks or PR :(.

EDIT- The name seems to be the name of a hotel chain. Would this help or hurt me?

If your looking to develop it then yeah. But if your looking to just pick it up and sell it, its very rare to come across valuable unregister domains for a novice (assuming you are).

Ok, I went ahead and registered it. Here's the name:
    hospes.net

It's Latin for 'host'. Clearly, this name has great potential in the web host and hotel industries. I came across the name because I am thinking of starting a free hosting company. It is the name of a very fancy chain of hotels in Spain and France, as well as a web host that looks fairly established (it's PR 5) in Poland.

There may be those who say Latin is dead, but it by no means isn't. Many modern languages have roots in Latin (English, Spanish, French, Italian, and more) and many people around the world, especially Europeans, know Latin (myself included).

Do you think the name is worth anything? I may sell it if I don't develop it into a free web host.
