Using the competition filter to block some sites/ads from being show is an essential tool for anyone who wants to increase their earnings.

Also, the use of channels to differentiate the values of clicks on each page or section is also a big help.

Usually I just have one unit per page, but there are some places where I have two. It mainly depends upon the size. If I use a 160x600 I do not normally place any other units on the page. If I use a smaller one I may use two.

less ads = low CTR = high CPC
    thats is what I think..
Manually adding sites to competitive ad filter is a good option, but it has a drawback also.

What could be a drawback to adding sites to the filter?

It depends. In many areas the CTR isn't affected by blocking links. There are simple enough good ads anyway.

I recommend using adsblacklist.com to find and block low paying ads.
