Are meta tags necesary?

    whatever i place in the meta description, Google takes it and places that in its results.

    google ignores all of the meta tags but it's better to use meta tags for the others search engines

    No it does not, there's several Google recognises and utilizes such as Description, Robots, NoODP etc.

    Here is a list of most major Meta Tags and their uses.

    I always still use meta tags, I can stick meta tags on a site that differ from the content and it'll rank on Google for what's in the meta tags... i've done this time and again as tests, and it still works that way.

    They're worth it in my opinion. :)

    others think that it is no help anymore but i don't think so...anything that might help for the site's improvement is great to use...and there is no harm in trying...
