Is there any way to obtain a certificate of ownership for a .com domain? I have sold a .com domain and the buyer wants some sort of proof they own it other than me just changing the contact details. The buyer is in the UK by the way. I know Nominet send you something for a .co.uk how about .com? Thanks!
The .COM registry does not issue certificates in the same way as Nominet has done in the past - the proof is in doing a WHOIS lookup and seeing their name, address and contact details as the registrant.
Cheers norfstar, I just emailed the buyer who also wants a website built along with the domain and sent him a link to a hosting company where he can open an account in his name, transfer the domain to his account and every thing will be set up in his name. I can then get access from him to work on the new site. When I have finished the work he can change the password and everyone's happy.
.com is different You need to transfer the domain to the buyer's account, don't just change the details. What registrar is it at?
Hello Michael, It has been sorted now thanks. Client is happy now I have explained things. I got the EPP Key from registrar and transfer is underway.
Nominet does not send out certificates any more since a few months ago for .co.uk names. For .com, they don't send any certificates. Proof of ownership will be in the buyers account when they see the domain there. What other proof would they need?
When someone is spending $10000 for a domain, website and seo package it is understandable that the person giving the money is a little nervous and wanted reassuring that the domain is really theirs to keep Its sometimes difficult to reassure people that have no knowledge of the Internet whatsoever that what your saying is true.
