How is Godaddy Backorder Service?

Has anybody had any experience with the GODADDY backorder service?

Do they snap up names that are just dropping?
Is it on a first com first serve basis?

What Godaddy says in the Backorder FAQ is that they go to the domainname aftermarket and takes part in an auction and places the first Bid.

I only get the domain if nobody else bids higher. Godaddy of course informs you that the bid went higher?

How do you pick up dropped domains otherwise on godaddy?
I thought godaddy backorder was simliar to namesnap??

never backorder a domain from GoDaddy..you'll never get it!! Honestly it's the biggest rip of $18 or whatever, I learned after spending the dough! For backordering noone beats Pool, Enom, or Moniker

I've used GoDaddy's backorder service in the past and would never use it again. I placed backorders for domains registered at GoDaddy or its affiliates but they never managed to get a single domain for me.

If you want to backorder domains, I would suggest backordering them at Snapnames, Pool, and Enom. It doesn't cost you anything to backorder (unless they successfully acquire the domain for you) and it is likely that either one company will get the domain name for you. Good luck!

Do they give you the money back if they don't get it for you?

I have to confirm the unpleasant experience with GoDaddy BO service everyone else is reporting.

In brief: Backordered domain that had GoDaddy as a registar in its details already (I thought it would make it easier for them hold it for me), paid about $18 and never saw the domain or the money again.

Enquired about refund since they never actually delivered any service (or did they?) and all I got was this:

Thank you for taking time to contact Online Support. Our system checks the registry twice a day. Domains are released at 3pm EST and consequently available for re-registration - in the event that a specific domain is backordered through multiple companies, both companies are likely to win the domain so it becomes a “toss of the coin” situation when both attempt to register the domain at the same time. This works the same way as any other domain registration - essentially if it is released, our Domain Alert Pro Backorder service is just as likely to win the domain as any other backorder system.

Please understand that a backorder does not guarantee that you will acquire the domain name being backordered. The domain name you are backordering may be renewed by the current registrant and not become available or we may be unsuccessful in our attempts to grab it and register it on your behalf.

Please note that if your backorder is not successful, it can be reassigned to another domain name.

I hope its ok to paste this here, if not admin pls let me know.

So am I gonna use that service ever again? Ummm what do you think? :)

Yes, they will notify you and let you know you have been outbid. If you have a backorder on an expired name listed on TDNAM and nobody else bids on it you are guaranteed to get it as these names are not yet in redemption. But on the 43rd day after the domain name expires the domain name leaves Godaddy's hands and goes into actual "redemption". The Godaddy backorder service is horrible for names that actually get released back to the registry. Godaddy only has three domain name registrars that attempt to backorder domains. (Godaddy, Wild West Domains, and Blue Razor).

Snap Names has a number (10 or more) registrars that attempt to capture the domain name for you, hence they are highly successful in capturing names. The more people that place back orders and the higher the dollar amount, the more resources Snap Names will use to capture the domain name. Obviously your best chance is to place multiple backorders from multiple different registrars.

As much as people hate GoDaddy for BO, how come their service is much cheaper? As they cost under $20, yet SnapNames and Pool cost $60

But backorders cost so much. Why not just try to get the domain name like normal instead of using these services.

totally true. Anyone who has a domain of any value whatsoever will not let it expire. Even when it does expire, you get plenty of email based warnings and 2nd warnings and other messages.
