Read my thread "All You Need to Know About SEO" and then head over to SitePoint and read their SEO FAQ.

    http://www.sitepoint.com/forums/showthread.php?t=182915

But before you do, to define SEO in a nutshell, it's a catch-phrase for proper modern on-site Web development and off-site marketing geared towards search engines and other Web site owners alike.

I'd rather spend my money on myself rather than some PPC campaign. But that's just me. SEO and PPC can compliment each other, but only if it's done properly. Get too carried away with either one and you'll end up with a broken Web site (no traffic and badly coded pages with no organic content), being broke yourself (no money) or both (most likely scenario).

    Actually, you should avoid seobook.com

Not only is the site (and book) full of misleading information (like how Aaron claims that .edu and .gov links are worth more than other TLDs even though the search engine sites themselves have said otherwise) but Aaron also sells the book KNOWING that the information is false and misleading.

Seriously, you're much better off with the Search Engine Optimization FAQ I posted earlier and Chris Beasley's SEO Guide (link is available in the SEO FAQ). Remember the golden rule about SEO information. The more you have to pay for it, the less accurate it is. In fact, if you have to pay for it period, suspect the legitimacy of the source in question.

Half of this forum is about your question... it is really not easy to answer in single thread.
