It's a horrible thing to happen, but the abuse victims accept the payout, so what's the problem? It's not like civil litigation is their only option, the victim can charge the priests criminally instead (which many do). Either way, civil courts are as just as criminal courts, I don't understand why it would matter to you which one a victim chooses to pursue. Anyways, there are bad people everywhere, the Church isn't immune from them. And just because these things happen doesn't mean every priest is a child molester. Thinking like that is pretty fanatical (which I believe is something you dislike about religion?).
The problem is that these scummy perverts abuse trust and thier position to have sex with children. Do you not see what the "problem" is with that?
I see the problem quite clear, but I'll remind you that problem isn't exclusive to the Church. Furthermore, using that problem to stereotype priests is simply dishonest. Besides, we were talking about the Church paying out settlements for child abuse, don't twist my words into something else.
No it's not exclusive to the church, I never said it was. But it doesn't give much credibility to their faith in god if these people are using their position as a trusted member of society to rape children, does it.
If you're talking about the child molesters, you're right. They're pretty twisted human beings aren't they? If Hell exists they'll be the first ones tossed in, that's for sure.
