What is the best free or cheap Blog Hosting?

So after some expiramenting with blogs, I have decided to begin one. I purchased a domain name:

    http://www.bemyaccountant.com

and am now looking into hosting. I have tried blogger and wordpress.com and like some features of both of them. I like how blogger lets me use adsense, but I dislike some other features. Also, I would like to move my blog off a free host in the future when I build a larger reader base. This lead me to wordpress, but wordpress.com doesn't allow ads or the extra plugins that I want from the regular wordpress. I have found a few sites that allow adsense with wordpress hosting, but no domain name support.

I'm not looking to spend money on hosting, unless it is extremely cheap and flexible. I will not need much storage space on the server, or bandwidth at first. Are there any other good alternatives?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Does this support sites that use their own domain? I don't want a subdomain so in the future I may keep my backlinks. Also, it looked to me like it was ad-supported (so I question if I can use my own as well without upgrading).

Go with your own hosting; too many variables when you rely on somebody else. I use BlueHost, and talk about it extensively on my blog!

I would really like to use a host like that, but I $7 a month is too much for me. This is more of a part-time thing.

So far I'm leaning towards the blogger path, but I'm concerned about future scalability. What if I change to wordpress in the future? Then my backlinks will be dead, correct? I know there is a wordpress feature to import posts, but I don't think they follow the same URL pattern.
