After the nice thread about Future of bidding directories, And few 1000s $$ of bids on top bidding directories, Lets discuss on "Life of the bidding Directory" How long the bidding directory should last ? Yes its permanent, but how long ? Nothing is infinite on this world. There should be some max limit. So that advertiser be assured of minimum limit.. Thanks.
I assure people permanent links. They will last for as long as i have a PC several times a week. Then when i can no longer run it i will sell it to someone who can.
You say a max limit. I would have to disagree. As I stated in my thread also kindly listed here in your thread, webmasters are out there being real busy and investing large sums of money into their bidding directories. Surely, and from their point of view a bidding directory is not just for today but the foreseeable future! Still, what happens when they have really high bids? Who exactly will pay for a link like this that stretches into the 100s and in some cases at present 1000s of dollars when true you can take that money and plant it elsewhere. The long term future of bidding directories a question that really needs to be answered and I believe that the only real answers will come from bidding directory owners themselves.
To quote myself above - one bidding directory owner that has commented so far is Zorg Links Biddding Directory. Big thank you from Mikey Zorg Links for your responses so far. There's a bidding directory I'd put my money on.
What is the new owner removes them or removes the bidding directory script and makes a new site ? Thanks for your comments, looking for more
Permanent should be permanent. Even if I were to sell my directory, I will not sell it to someone who would not keep the existing links. I just own one bidding directory currently - www.gobiddy.com
Is there even a future for them? Reading from this thread I looked at what I presume is the popular one Zorg? It doesn't even have a listing in business, now this tells me one of two things, either its new or the wise SEO company realizes that its a waste of time as thier customers don't want to 'bid', they want a fixed fee listing on a decent directory with qualified traffic. If I'm wrong that's fantastic as I would love to see people who put so much time and effort into these bidding directories get rewarded but I don't think I am sadly, we'll just have to wait and see.
usually when someone sells directories, they make a few things clear, like the link stays as long as it should be etc! so, i guess that won't be the biggest conserns while selling directories! As far as selling is considered, i won't sell any of my directories! though life is uncertain so it is hard to say something, but at the moment there is absolutely no plans to sell any directory whatsoever! But then selling directory to a bigger directory owner actually helps a directory to progress further! About the links, on my bidding web directory, i can conferm that all links are permanant, unless something happens to me or the directory!
I would only sell to a DP member who is active here and knows a lot. Or sell to a large company like magx directory was sold. I dont like it when i invest in a site and then it goes down. i spent a lot on the 5 directories that blogmaster - mike owns, and only 1 is still running. A bidding directory is no different to any other directory - it should be permanent (unless yearly which wouldnt really work with bid directories)
All the links that are accepted in Direcbid are as listed, they are permanent and i owe it to those that bid to promote the site hard,as some of you may have noticed
Till I am dead, or something unfortunate happens .. Permanent means permanent & Yes BAMS Bidding Web Directory promises to do so. Incase I decide to sell, it will be sold to someone who is big enough to handle my site and will take its care like his baby, not leaving it dead.
Sharp Directory - Bid for Position Ranking King - Bidding Directory Mr Linking - Bid Directory Big Bidding Bid For Level Bid For Rank Directory These are my Bidding Directories. They are going to Stay as long as I can function well. In the next few years I may actually train my kids on how to take care of them. So, bid on them when they are young and cheap. Thanks
nice directories, but bids are already getting high. bid directories are ok if they stay with their original owner, but when it change from hand the new owner will notice it is not worth to have them the way he got it, so he could easily decide to change it into something else.
Why is everyone thinking the life of a bidding directory is any different then the life of any paid directory? Whether you buy a permanent link at a paid directory or a bidding directory, they both have the same permanentness (if permanentness is actually a word) . I see people talking about selling directories. If a permanent listed bidding directory is sold, just like a permanent listed paid directory (I've seen many of these get sold already) they owner should be required to keep any links already listed at their current bid prices (just like paid directories do). To comment on expensive homepage links. I read someone's blog post the other day (sorry, don't remember who's it was, even sorrier if I take it out of context.) but they commented about the prices for some bidding directories homepage links being in the +$1,000 range, but the sublink in (letter 'W' or something like that) to get in the 10th spot on the page was less than a $100. The difference between the two pages was 1 PR point. (sorry, a little long and drawn out) Point being, you don't have pay the big bucks to be on a bid directories homepage and you don't have to be on the homepage to get the benefit of being listed at a bid directory. Very few paid directories give permanent links on their homepage, they usually charge a monthly fee, and that is the main reason why you see such large amount bid on bidding directories to get on the homepage as once paid, there is no monthly continuing costs unless they are outbid. Sorry, way to long Tuleja
Don't worry about the length of your post . Anywho what you are failing to realize is that in that particular instance you mentioned the link was in fact on the homepage where the bids are high and was outbid. So they were not bidding on a 'W' page, they were bidding for the homepage. That is what people overlook. Peopel need to see the whole picture and not get mesmerized by the site of a few hundred dollar, bids.
Bidding directories will be around for as long as webmasters believe they are useful for SEO, which generally is determined by Google (among other things I know, but you get the point). So when Google decides bidding directories are no longer of relevance and it becomes clear having links on them is no longer of use SEO wise, that is when their time is up. The good directories will stay online for years after this, but they wont get much more business, and inevitably will disappear eventually. For Bidding directories to survive past the 'Google no relevance' point will mean some serious evolution from their current form, useful, probably article based content will keep them off Googles radar and ensure they continue to serve a role in the SEO world. Just my 2 cents... (I own a bidding directory by the way)
bidding directories provide a lot more than backlinks. google and the SEO crew are not even half the story
wayner pretty much sums it up. I don't think gooogle is the end-all-be-all but right now everyone is hung up on page rank and being in gooogle's good-books. Really, as said above a bidding directory is just like other directories and more content and uselfulness will be helpful to their longetivity. That is one of the reasons I like the phpld bid script because of the article integration and I have already pulished a few unique articles in my bid directory.
People often talk about the traffic you will get if you submit to a bidding directory. This is only the case if you have bid high enough to get on the homepage of high traffic bidding directories otherwise the traffic you get from a bidding directory will be the same as a general directory - next to nothing. Therefore in effect what you are buying if you are not bidding big money to get on the homepage of a bidding directory is at least a 2nd level page link. What will then happen is everytime somebody bids higher than you your link will drop onto the 2nd then 3rd page of that category removing any PR you may have got from being listed on the previous pages. OK, all is good because at you can go and bid to get back on the first page but then the link has yet again disappeared from the 3rd page and so on! No stability unless you are going to constantly bid and keep an eye on your position of all bidding directories you have bid on. Point is, many webmasters will be looking for stability in getting links to their website because they want the link to be found search engines and users alike. .
