Taking a look at some bidding directories and, there are some truly amazing ones out there with huge potential. There are questions however that remain to be answered on these relatively new wave of directories in the form Bidding. We've seen many bidding directories out there with no pagerank already pulling in really high bids in the 100s of dollars because of the heavy promotion being undertaken by busy webmasters. Several questions that spring to mind about bidding directories and their paths are followed here: ----------------------------------- What is the longterm future of bidding directories? What happens when a bidding directory has really high bids already set? Has anybody yet considered bidding directories as a form of advertising? And if so…. Would this not be appropriate to be entered into the niche market, say like travel which in turn is one of the biggest online industries the UK? And finally, are bidding directories about to overtake the everyday general directory? . . .
I think you brought up some good questions and i do belive that a NICHE bidding directory would be a GREAT! idea.. Bidding directories offer more traffic then regulaer general directories but i dont see them beating the general web directory as the GENERAL web directory has much more to offer (at this time) in the sense of categories, articles submittions and a few other details that the bidding script still doesnt offer. thx malcolm
Very good questions about bidding directories. About what happens when high bids are already set. The people with those bids may continue bidding against each other but you have to wonder if its worth a newbie's time to come along and have to invest some huge ammount or rather just look for the next big bidding dir. I think they are great but its hard to guess at the long term future. Also will google start to penalize this kind of directory?
The only thing i'm worried about is the directory becoming "saturated" eg the homepage and category pages fill up a lot it turns people off. however, phplinkbid is going to get subcategories in the next update, so that will open up more chanels for submissions
Many things go on with Google which many cannot explain - we all speculate. However, I am trying to look at bidding directories in one of the most positive lights because of the hard work being undertaken by webmasters to drive high traffic to their websites - that being an Advertising Platform!
Dont be just yet as ive seen one that got updated or well it actually droped in PR rank is all but didnt get de-indexed as i think that the owner of dollar linking did something wrong and is why it got XXX... thx malcolm
bidding directories have a feature where you can display the listings on another page, like the top 5 listings of harmu.com is posted on friends cyber club leaderboard page! so i guess bidding directories have a lot of feature to last long! questions on very high bids! i guess this won't be a problem as people see bidding directories as a permanant link! so people will continue to post there sites! and the sites also competes on category pages! so the saturation is not a big problem! bidding directories gives huge traffic to listings! so it can be taken as a mode of advertisement, Am planning to do something for the content part aswell! a blog can work well for the content, am looking foreword to it! other than the lack of content, there is not basic de-merits of bidding directory! and content part can be worked on! no, it won't take up the place of general directories, though i think, bidding directories have a very promising future!
There appears to be a Google bounce going on at the moment. I posted a thread in Google regarding this yesterday about UK One getting PR but when I looked closer it restored what it gave to pages at an earlier time. Thread at http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=426664 In reply to uttoransen: "no, it won't take up the place of general directories, though i think, bidding directories have a very promising future!" --- I am currently believing this tooooo. . .
http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=428339 << This thread hopefully explains a lot? surely some point in there can solve some confusion?
Mine is already niche (directory of directories) because I knew most bidders would be directory owners. I have another bidding directory that is for other submitters, promoting differently. I wasn't sure how this trend would go, so I started off with that niche. But later on, I thought I would have general bid directory, just in case it becomes popular
No, but mix directories like bigweblinks have definitely an edge over both general and bid directories
Not entirely certain it is the truth but if it is then the following question still needs to be asked: What happens when a bidding directory has really high bids already set? and fills up?
bigweblinks is a pure bidding directory, why do you call it a mix? The only ones that will be a mix are the new phpld 3.2 bidding directories They permit free, regular and only the featured listing follow the bidding format, I am following that mix format with www.cheap-list.com This thing of established really high bids i think is certainly going to be an issue that needs addressing I mean't how much can it be worth to get listed on page two of a directory category ? I just worry that a bid directory would become essentially "full" with webmasters taking their promotion dollars elsewhere once they can't justify paying $100 to be listed on page 4 of a category. From the directory owners point of view , can this be good ? Will they continue to promote the directory to make sure high traffic an high link power is maintained , in the face of zero submission income ? Would they need to create a continous stream of similar bidding directories to maintain their income? I don't know any answers , but these are some of my worries phpld has some answers tho
I call it mix because it allows you navigate in categories like general directories and you can submit there and its special feature of general directories that you browse in categories. In general directories you see links in some order but not based on 'dollar' links paid. While in bidding directories you bid without any category or like alphabetically and rank for dollar you pay and this is special feature of bidding directories. If both features are incorporated then you should call it 'mix'.
Thanks for introducing your site centime. It is a very popular template that I keep coming across with eye warming colours. However you mention "I am following that mix format with www.cheap-list.com". I cannot see any evidence of this with your site or maybe I have misunderstood what you are stating!
I think this issue will become more of a problem a couple of years down the line, because although you can pay for bidding directories in a recurring way, that would discourage newcomers from investing in them. After several years the established bidding directories will look like a very good deal for people who have been listed in them since the start, and simply too much of a closed shop for all but the richest new webmasters. This raises questions about the continuous promotion of a bidding directory. Will the answer be that a lot of bidding directories that fill up will end up scrapped or unmaintained?
