Good Rank? (PR2)

Discussion in 'Directories' started by almondj, Aug 6, 2007.

I have directory that I barely promote, but know a few tricks to SEO (pretty basic, stuff, nothing black hat either.) Currently I am #1 in google for the search term of: dial up safe, dial-up safe, and dialupsafe. I ran my site through SEO Elite and came back with a page rank of #2, is that good for a site that I barely promote and average 300 - 400 uniques a month? Would it be profitable to promote it?

Pr2 is kinda Googles default for sites that haven't been touched lol , 5 of mine have got pr2, i havent touched them just thrown a script on them and left them.

Like any site if you spend time on it and get relevant links to it, it can be profitable.

The keywords you are ranking for seem irrelevant, your traffic is very low and PR2 is fairly basic and easily obtainable.

Any site can be profitable if you can bring in enough traffic and you have a way to monetize it. I think you need to figure that out first.

I think the idea is unique, however there's to much labor. So I'll put it off for th future.

What is dialup safe anyway? To me this sounds like internet security or anti virus especially for dialup internet users.

    Like jg123 says irelevant keywords.

It's a directory that contains sites that load quicker on dial-up, so no more yahoo...

You go for it almondj, don't be put off by the lack of encouragement here. They make comments on your domain name yet have you seen half of them here, they got no relation to directories whatsoever so don't pay any attention to them.

Your name is no worse than half the poorly named directories and they all claim success so there's no reason why you shouldn't succeed. You put in work and money and promotion and you can do just as good as anyone.

    Good luck. :)

hahaha, The Pheonix is offering you some truly 'bad advice' - you should care what we are saying because many of us have been in the game for years and have lots of experience. If you go for a name that is non-relevant but brandable like Aviva you will have to spend lots and lots of money on advertising so folks make the connection and that is a great way to go if you have the funds. Otherwise it is smart to use a name that has some sort of relevance to the topic of your site. There are many SEO's that claim having keywords relevant to your site (in your URL) is important when it comes to search engine ranking and from my experience they are probably right.

    Thanks :)

Bad advice? With enough promotion, IMO any site is profitable.

    - Why make the job harder? But your a newbie and I guess most people like to learn from their own experiences.

Yes you can make any website somewhat successful if you have an endless supply of $$$, but the real challenge is to make the most money while investing the least.

which is weird because my shop currently has a PR 2 and I promoted it like crazy. if you search google for my domain name there are over 1000 results. It it how ever not 1 year old if that means anything.

As you can see you shop has got 500 odd links pointing towards it most of them from a couple of sites (site wide links)

    smartpagerank.com/pagerank-backlinks.php?domain=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.astawerks.com%2F&results=50

I would say you will prob be a PR3 or 4 after the update.

But would say that you need to promote it like crazier man lol !

Get some Relevant High PR links, and start submitting to free directories with you chosen anchor text. Remember Serps is always updated so you anchor will start to make small differences for every half decent link

Keep going good luck with the shop

just because you submitted the site to these place's it doesn't mean you are in them i couldn't find your site in dmoz either

    search.dmoz.org/cgi-bin/search?search=astawerks.net

some links google doesn't display but you can look here as a good guide

    iwebtool.com/backlink_checker

i think its currently not working because of the update though
