Link exchanges are at best devalued and at worst can get you penalized for excessive reciprocal linking.

In moderation link exchanges with revelant sites are o.k.

 

Best way to get back links IMHO:

Article marketing, buying blog posts, and social bookmarking.

 

improve your link popularity through directory submission, forums, article and press release submission, blog, link baiting, link exchange, social bookmarking sites, social networking sites, etc.

 

You need at least a link at day just to break even.

LMAO yeah thats a real good one! But i have to say i've been here a very short time and i've already found some tremendous resources.

Make sure you have a banner on your site and encourage others download it.

 

I have just started article marketing. It is low cost and you will pick up some backlinks especially on the long-tails.

 

To get good links you need to carry many activities like directory submission, forum posting, write in subject related guest book, scrape posting etc...

 

Or you could not be a spammer and just write decent content that people want to link to.

Best way is 'Link Bait'

What i mean is, create something like an article, something that is interesting and is related to your niche, planning this will probably be the hardest part so take as long as it takes!

You want something that people are going to be really interested in. Once you have this, take it to the big sites like digg and all the others etc... then just wait for all your backlinks

the better your article is, the more links you'll receive so thats why i say make sure you plan it well dont just write a standard article that everyone already knows about and put it forward try get something thats truly unique and informative.

This also goes for the content on your sites, if you follow the same guidelines as above, you'll be seeing more and more 'Organic' links before you know it and the 'Organic' links are the ones that you want
