I notice a lot of my submissions come from SEO companies from Canada, I see the odd dozen a day from about ten other countries like the US and UK, but by far Canada is where the money is coming from, do they know something that other people don't? (As this isn't a self promotion I'll not post the url of the directory I'm talking about save to say it does have history and when I've finished with the puppy it will be THE place to be listed.) Wish I owned it. So the question is, are Canadian SEO companies ahead of the game? Do they look at the name of a directory, the potential, the longevity? Do they maybe take an educated punt that the directory they are submitting to is going to be around long after the QBC's of this world or what? Can anyone shed some light on this please?
But this would be a good starting point in trying to answer your question. Have you geo targeted canada? It's hard to say anything without knowing the site in question or at least a deeply detailed description of it
No I haven't targeted anyone yet, my job is to get the directory re-populated then promote the hell out of which is why I'm so puzzled as to its popularity with certain parts of the globe.
Are these visitors coming from search engines? If so, it's probably because the SE is getting the geotargetting wrong. I'm guessing you're talking about a .com domain, and when it's not a country-specific tld the SE just has to guess based on where you are hosted, and other clues. I don't know whether they use whois info to figure this out, or where your inbound links are coming from. Otherwise it may just be that you happen to have more word-of-mouth presence amongst a group of Canadian SEOs.
Demographics are largely North America and Canada, at least 80% of traffic, it is a .com domain hosted in the US. Could it be due to qualified traffic it's hitting? Hmm, got me thinking now.
