So, to recap - and save other people clicking - you are basically suggesting doing a directory site for freelance web designers with listings being more advanced for this type of work?

As a concept it is not bad. Where is your revenue stream? Paid for listings? How are freelancers/ companies ranked?

You say you dont want companies but how do you exclude them? They are certainly the most likely to be willing to pay for advertisements.

I would disagree on your comments on escrow though - for one this is for both sides not just "buyers" and whilst freelancers are a fair bunch in your opinion not all buyers are. A safety net can also act as a filter and so you may see a low volume of scammers because of the fact escrow is used not because freelancers are as a rule arent scammers (not that I am suggesting they are as we were all freelancers for many years)

To be honest, the more I think about the more I see it as either 1) nothing more than a basic directory or 2) needing to be another elance or guru

I wouldn't worry to much about trying to make money off the bat. Remember, when Google started search engines weren't necessary profitable. In fact, adwords was started a few years after Google launched. Build a quality site, get some quality traffic, then money will come.

Your first post on the blog spoke about your love for being online and the future propects for home based business.

Well, I certainly do agree with you but I must say that most of the so called "home based job" are not at all worth for their money. They are waste of time. Its not worth investing for getting your self registered with home based job work.

Home based job does not mean working for someone else from home. It means being a webmaster and running your own business from home.

Not having a fail safe in regards to keeping spammers out can lead to the fall of any website that uses a model that you talk about. If you allow spammers the opportunity to get in and out without any repercussion, then they will do it and then people will be looking at you to get their money back!
