Is it possible to filter out rel="nofollow" from google search results when finding link partners? I tried adding -"nofollow" to the end of the search string but that don't word from what I can see. It would save heaps of time not having to look up the page source of a potential link partner / directory.
Nope, there is no way to filter results out using a search string or operator. The only way it would be possible, would either be if a whole new search engine was created which dynamically parsed the results through a function which searched for the nofollow attribute and display them accordingly. Or if somebody was to create a FireFox plugin which displayed if the page a link was linking to included nofollow in it's source when hovering over it. But don't ask me, because I don't use FireFox so I have no idea about creating plugins.
Don't worry about it... Humans follow rel="nofollow" and that's more important at the end of the day. If you can get your link on the first page, or one page deep on age one of Google, then you are closer to page one then you were before...even if bots won't follow (which some suspect they do anyway). Think in terms of users and traffic, not bots and search engines.
Well you can think in terms of both traffic and bots. I know there are programs you can purchase out there that does this for you, but I can't think of them at the top of my head. Nothing free that I know of. If you are looking for links within a link directory of a particular site, I would worry about the nofollow tag, noone will click on your link on these pages, but will count on your backlinks. If you are getting a link from other site that will be viewed by the general public, then I say don't worry as much about the nofollow tag, since this link will bring in traffic, but if your paying for the link.....you should definately get the best of both worlds.
I have an article about a site that allows you to search for "do follow" blogs on my blog. idiotaffiliate.com/a-great-source-for-finding-blogs-to-post-to-who-do-follow
There is in fact a Firefox plugin that will show you if the links on a page are no-follow. The plugin is at www.seobook.com and is the seo book plugin. If a pages links are no-follow then they show up in red so you will then know that hte search engines will not give you credit for them
Yes but that require you to visit the sites before seeing if the site is nofollow or not. I think JasMate is looking for a tool that spare him to have to go to every site and check them.
This is correct Thanks for the replys, I am aware of the quake & seo plugins that show the links of a page as nofollow but I am interested in knowing how to look at an entire list of google results and immediately see if the site uses nofollow or not.
nofollow is for porposes of not following the link itself. The words are still picked up as, well words on the page.
