I agree completely, I think it's unfair to say that people who want a higher PR are only using it for subversive methods, as was implied by gregory. It's kind of like, you mind your business, I'll mind mine. He can think PR is worthless, but that doesn't make it so for everyone. It's very subjective.

Obviously, to some, the additional co-op weight is a good reason. To some it's for link trades, or directories, or selling links. Whatever it is, it matters to some people. I just get tired of the people who join these threads and say "PR is useless, why bother?" Obviously it's not useless to some (a lot) of us. =) I'm sure there are a lot of people who don't care about PR, which is fine. Just don't know why they want EVERYONE to not care about PR along with them.

And for a first poster to join this thread just to say that, and not even know what the co-op is, is a bit odd to me. It just seems out of place, I mean, unless the person wants to instigate, or just likes telling others what they should think.

In my mind, even PR is not directly related to serp, it is still a very important measure of SEO.

Could you elaborate on that? And I don't mean this in an arrogant way, I'm just interested in your theory.

As far as I'm concerned, Page rank is the most important factors regarding the ordering and selection criteria of Google's search results.

Well, how do you separate PR from the number of backlinks a site has? It's really backlinks and anchor text that determine serps, I would think. Along with on page content, and if you believe google, text on the linking pages.

So PR may just be an indicator of backlinks, so if PR disappeared, SERPs would be the same because backlinks are the same. That is my guess anyway, PR does matter for several other more specific reasons.

But yes, by way of backlinks, a PR8 is probably going to be higher in the SERPs than a PR1, all other variables equal, simply because to have a PR8, you have to have an insane number of backlinks.

    XC &Pedro,

PR is a important factor in ordering results in SERPs but not the only factor.

Let me explain you with a quick example:

    For a keyword "XXX"

A site with Pagerank 7 ranking lower than Pagerank 4. The reason could be:

    1) Higher backlinks
    2) Backlinks with exact keyword as anchor text
    3) Keyword density
    4) Overall relevancy to keyword niche

    and many more.

Hope thats helps everyone including you both

Indeed. But remember that Page Rank is not only about volume. As a matter of fact, the theory behind Page Rank focuses on perceived quality not quantity.

    PR(A) = (1-d) + d (PR(T1)/C(T1) + ... + PR(Tn)/C(Tn))

page rank is updated all the time. the toolbar Page rank - the one you see in the toolbar - is only updated once every 3 months (usually). But the real page rank - one you don't see - is calculated all the time - some predict daily.

You either go with PR or SERP, and all honesty good webmasters should only worry about SERP.

Just because you're doing good with one, doesn't mean you're doing bad with the other... I believe they normally go hand-in-hand...

    Not true.

It depends on what type of sites the webmaster owns. For instance I have 2 networks of 15 sites each for mortgage and casino related sites.

For those 30 sites I can give a poop about SERPs. The only thing important for me there is pagerank because they are there for the sole purpose of selling links on them. Of course they still do rank in the SERPs and pull in traffic but I really dont care about that at all.

This does not make me a bad webmaster at all.

Also to comment on some previous posts pagerank (the number) is a value that is considered into the algorithm but it dont hold as much weight as peviously said, therefor its not a big factor at all in SERPs.

    guys

I have credible information that PR updated has started!

The site has jumped from PR0 to PR3

but it has 7500 pages indexed in Google ,it's a directory

The site is www.hillpanthers.com from PR0 to PR3

using this www.livepr.info/internalpagespr.php I checked PR of internal pages but PR has not been updated for internal pages!

It think I should wait for PR to get on internal pages

    Check this site

    www.hillpanthers.com

It has jumped to PR3 from PR0

I checked it via www.livepr.info and most of the datacenters is showing PR3

The site was PR0 just a few days ago and now it has been updated to PR3

But I checked its internal pages by this

www.livepr.info/internalpagespr.php (no PR in internal pages so far)

Also check it's backlinks in Google and Yahoo!

I have disabled the submit page as this directory has article mod! installed on it!

I will soon announce it in directory section! So wait till then!
