Tip for directory owners - your URL in emails.

I have a directory submission service, and find that many directory owners are missing an opportunity.

In your emails, you should always provide a link to your directory. That sounds basic, huh? But many directories don't do this.

For example, a couple days ago I submitted to a directory and got an email back saying, something like "Thank you for your submission. Empty Mirror Books has been accepted into Really Good Directory directory. all best, Really Good Directory."

(name of the directory has been changed to a made-up one)

No URL. Now, I'd like to go see my link on their site. And maybe I'd like to thank them by linking back. But to do it, I have to guess at the address (is it reallygooddirectory.com? or something else?) or do a Google search.

And, sometimes there hasn't even been enough information in the email to identify which directory it was at all.

Other directories do include their domain name, but in email that usually isn't enough for a clickable link, so it must be typed in, or at least copied & pasted into the address bar. The entire URL, http://www.reallygooddirectory.com - or at the very least, www.reallygooddirectory.com is what's really needed.

Just thought I'd give y'all a heads up, so you can take advantage of this opportunity. :)

    cheers ~
    Denise

It's definitely a frustration I share as well, namely because I like to keep track of who I've submitted to and whether the submission has been accepted.

Such an easy oversite to correct as well...

I think every directory owner should have a good email notification..

-- submit your site and check what emails you get - on approval, rejection and payment..

-- add proper details like directory url, link submitted, etc

-- If possible, add your paypal ID too so that if by mistake the submitter was not able to pay, he can pay it manually.
(This has helped me a few times - just helped yesterday too)

MeetHere & Razvan, I agree completely. The PayPal link is a great idea, as is promoting other directories you may own.

And, you can always take the opportunity to promote other services as well, or to put in a link to your rating page at DirectoryCritic.

I own a directory (see my sig) and my acceptance email has blurbs about, and links to, my directory submission & webdesign services.

Those confirmation emails are full of opportunities ~~ :)

    cheers ~

    but many do waste it...

I just got another one of these type of confirmation emails today - they had a link to another of their websites (which was SEO-related, but not a directory). But there was no link to the directory I submitted to, or even any mention of its domain name.

    best,
    Denise

And not just for directory owners, but all of us in every email we send to anyone. It's simple in most email programs — just add it as your signature. For a long time I've put at the bottom of every email the following:

Online Bible Studies and Free Sermons by Pastor Jim Feeney, Ph.D.

It's free advertising! Why pass it up?
