Flaw in Sponsored Links Mod for PHPLD

Just an FYI for directory owners who use Dargre's Sponsored Links mod:

I've noticed with my own directory and now see first hand that links expire without warning if not changed manually in the configuration.

Example: I had a 3 month link on LinkForever.net and today it was set to renew. Well, paypal automatically withdrew the funds from my paypal account to renew the link subscription, HOWEVER, the link must have expired on LinkForever's end for some reason.

If you check, my link under Popular Sites is not there, yet I've paid in full.

This leaves me at loss at the moment as Dargre is out of town for 2 weeks on vacation with little or no internet to deal with this problem. Therefore, I may lose all of my indexed backlinks links from Linkforever.

**Note: I've only seen this scenario occur on subscriptions over 2 months. It seems to work fine with monthly subscriptions. Make sure you check to make sure webmaster's links haven't expired if you receive a payment for more than 1 month**

I think it must be an IPN issue or something that doesn't register renewals.

This has also happened with links on my sponsored links expiring without notice.

I did. I just wanted to make others aware that this has/can happen if you don't manually set expiration dates within the configuration. I've only seen this scenario occur on subscriptions over 2 months.

It's probably a bug fix, but nevertheless needs to shown so people aren't losing links without knowing.

If you have subscribed for over 1 month (2 Months+) and are set to renew every few months reocurring, make sure you check to see if your link is still live after your 2nd payment.

    My Example:

I pay for 3 months for a link.

3 Months later it renews (I pay again) and my link has disappeared automatically due to the system in place for Sponsored Links Mod (It automatically sets to expire even though it has a subscription).

This has happened TO ME and also ON MY DIRECTORY mod so I made this public for a fix. It only seems to happen on payments over 1 month that are set to renew.

The only reason I caught it was I received a payment from a website owner and his link wasn't on my site anymore. I went and checked and it expired even though he renewed. I promptly set an expiration again and set a reminder until a bug fix is resolved.

I also noticed that when you received a sponsored submission that you need to manually alter dates and stuff, not sure if anyone else had to do this but i know i did, otherwise anyone who had purchased would not of got their full time that they paid for.

Yep. I hope people see this thread and double check that all their links for/on their sites are live and not expired after payment of more than 1 month.

When he installed it he told me seriously to set the expiration date and check all details though i have monthly based subscriptions, so i dont think i need to worry about this.
    Thanks for the heads up

I also have this problem too at szab.net and to make it bad customer accused me removed the link even though payment made. As a result, I have to give him free sponsored link for this month as compensation

This is correct but if you are running your directory correctly meaning as Pete would say 24/7/365 then you should have no problems as paypal sends an email saying you have received a subscription payment, it's then up to you to activate the link again with the new subscription term.

Not the best way of doing things but if owners are devoted to their directories they would notice the paypal email and activate the link again, by devoted I mean if you are going away you should have someone at the helm of your directory.

I hope you aren't taking shots at people and saying they aren't "devoted" or "running their directory correctly" because they weren't aware of this bug in this particular mod.

It has nothing to do with "running a directory correctly", it was a bug that I happen to catch as I checked my day to day duties for my directory and felt it deserved to be posted for other directory owners.

In the end, it's up to the Mod Developer to make sure the Mod's released work properly, not the directory owner to knowingly find all the bugs and deal with it as if it's ok and normal business. Watch how you word your statements.

well the mod suppose to automatically renew the link and if I have to manually do everything, no point installing the mod. And even though customer link was missing for only one day, I give him refund for full month. And I am not working 24/7/365 because I have a life, a family and 15 more websites to take care
