Using small Search Engines to rank high in Google?

I was wondering if this is possible. There are lots of small Search Engines available. (For example,Dewa.

If I give a backlink to the result page, will that count as a backlink? Has anybody tried this, and did this give positive results.

Because there are thousands of small Search Engines, and if they all get one backlink, you'll have thousands of backlinks in no time. They are somehow related to the keyword, but the URL isn't really SE Friendly most of the time.

no ... the result page dont give you a backlink and i will tell you why

when Googlebot start to spider the sites ... he will come to this small search engine - ok ... BUT he cant perform searches and cant see the result page with the link to your site!!! The spider counts only static links .... result page is dinamic ;)

But what if you post a link to the result page? There are lots of dynamic pages cached in Google, right? (correct me if I'm wrong)

Well , Teunel ... by this question i make conclusion that you are new in this ;) nothing wrong with that of cource.

Let me answer your question. Well you CAN link to result page , but imagine that you site is on page 4 in results and you make link to this page .... OK but result pages are dinamic ... one day you are on result page 4 , on the next day , you are on 5 or 3 .. thats why the answers to your two questions are NO , its Wrong to do this - linking to result page.

I hope you will listen to this and you will not gone to make this mistake

    Wish you Luck!

The user is linking to the results page, and google will follow that link.
Nobody is saying google is going to type in to a search box.

There is nothing about the url http://www.engine.com/search?q=search that makes it impossible for a bot to spider. It will see the link, Follow it and it will arrive at the same page that you and i arrive at. It will see the links and text which we see.

The links wont be worth much, If anything, But it will see them.

I mean its not rationaly. No body do this ...

If you admit that it will follow the link to the results page what makes you think it wont also follow the link to the page where the site is listed?

I'm not arguing that this will help his serps, it wont, it's a useless link.
But the bot will find the link.

I'm not really new to SEO, but what if you make it search to your sitename? You can be almost sure that you'll be on the first page forever.

And yes, I agree that the backlink wouldn't be worth much, because it has only one backlink, but still, it might help for a tiny bit?

yes you are right! its clever move, BUT ... what for ... you will make a search .. will make then a link to the result , where is the link to your site ... its too clumsy ... can you just make link directly to your site ... somewhere , but not this way ... well , its you decision , but i will never work this way

You can answer it but leave calling him a noob out when you are not 100% sure about something because this time you are dead wrong. Here is an example.

    My site: process2print.com
    results page: http://www.forexfinding.info/business-record.htm

This results page is pulling search results from yahoo's api and wouldn't you know it .. I rank #2 there for business record. So as long as I keep that ranking, my site will receive a backlink from this page.

Don't think it counts? Check out this yahoo linkdomain: search to be proved otherwise.

And I would also totally disagree that the link will not help ... on the contrary, this is an excellent & relevant link centered around the keywords "business record". Business Record is located in the title and throughout the page close to 50 times.

Furthermore, the only reason it does not show up using the google link: command is because it is a nofollow link. Does that mean it doesn't count? No way, it just counts less than a normal link (although this is a subject for another thread).

I've got a search engine that archives searches preformed for a purpose similar to this. Search results are an excellent way to build backlinks that are relevant. Do not do this expecting PR as result pages are seldom linked to and almost never get above PR0 ... but PR is worthless so don't worry about this side of things.

Want to build some links? Here is my meta search engine that uses yahoo, msn & ask's results to provide the best quality search results I can (yes, that is a link that does exactly what we are talking about here).

So all you really have to do is find some keywords that you already rank well for (can be long tail) and click sumbit. The results will be archived here short term and then moved to a folder for long term archiving. I list up to 60 results on 1 page and don't have page 1, 2, 3, ... If you can't find what you are looking for in these results, you need to learn to search better.

Keep your head up Teunel and keep thinking outside the box. The repliers to this thread have the mindset of PR hunting and are giving you bad advice. They would have you waste days submitting to crap directories just to build a few irrelevant backlinks.

This is an excellent way to build relevant backlinks and improve your SERPs, the trick is to find engines that don't use nofollow and your backlinks will count for even more (send me a list if you have one :]). Go ahead and tell your friends you are a stinking genius and keep moving forward with progressive thinking. PM me if you have anymore great linkbuilding ideas.

BTW: don't search just for the name of your web site as the results page will contain almost no keywords that are good for improving your SERPs (unless your company's name is frequently searched). Use real phrases!

Also, my engine is kind of a work in progress so keep the criticism constructive (yet positive) if you have any comments about it.

Bad idea, dont forget there will most likely be 9 competitors links on the page. So the small amount of weight you pass to the page will be split 10 ways and your competitors get 9/10 of it.

Stupid idea, even if you link to a site:yourdomain.com page.

Good point buy anyone with a few brain cells can get around this. Move your link to a long tail that you know you rank for and they don't. Just like any linkbuilding tactic, do your research beforehand. Plugging your competition will negate some of link juice (slimy yet satisfying) you are trying to harness. Careful planning & research will avoid this.

    Good luck

Huh.. Long tail or not, if you rank for a keyphrase the other sites that rank for it ARE your competition.

If you want to help out 9 other websites in attempt to gather some sort of advantage.. All i can say is i hope we share some of the same phrases lol

Not necessarily. Let's say you have a page that is a GET instead of a POST and it has the query string in there. Google is getting very good at posting dynamic sites that are unique.

Let's say you are looking for a widget...

www.sitename.com/findit.asp?search=widget is a page in and of itself
    www.sitename.com/findit.asp is not

What I routinely do with small sites is to link to them and then PROMOTE that page. Hey GOOGLE look at this page over here... oh yeah by the way there's a link to my site on it.

It sounds stupid but it works.

Totally not stupid, actually too smart for your own good. This is a variation of some black hat / cracker tricks ... and these guys are some of the brightest minds in the business.

There are hundreds of ways to inject information via XSS (gawd I hate linking to wikipedia). I'll give 3 examples of how this would work.

OUR WAY - We link to a page in search results in order to gain links for our site. The search engines then display relevant links which just happen to contain ours. We would not feed google the link using our site as the link would be considered reciprocal. Instead we post on some forums or classified ads links to the search result page we are hoping to get indexed (for the backlinks) and voila .... google now sees that some site is linking to us (and 9 other sites) of similar content.

THE BLACK HAT WAY - Ever seen a get variable in a url named "message"? I would wager that variable contains a message that gets displayed on the HTML page. That message might also be able to pass a link (if htmlentities() or similar function is not used). This is called link injection (I think) and is a very powerful way of "tricking" a web site into displaying some of your links IN THE ACTUAL HTML ... which then gets indexed by G.

If you find the right weakness in the right site this can amount to some awesome backlinks from sites who would never link to you in the first place. A BHer would then mask the url string with a tinyurl.com (or similar) redirect url so as not to set off a flag.

THE CRACKERS WAY - Link injection using javascript can (and does) install spyware & viruses on innocent computers every day. Spoofing an email address and sending a "click me" message to an unsuspecting user is very easy to do. That "click me" url contains the information needed to install malicious codes directly from trusted sites (like paypal, ebay, etc). I've actually had some clean up some old versions of wordpress for some clients who got some angry phone calls from paypal because of a similar trick to this.

I'm famous for giving too much information ... sorry people

You're right about that, there are 9 competitors. But you won't have that problem when your search for site:yourdomain.com. My website has the keyword in the Title tag, which is what the SE's use to link me.
