Creating a blog parody. Do or Don't?

Quite recently I have set up www.johncow.com as a parody on the well known John Chow money making blog.
I'm trying to keep the posts entertaining yet informative for the readers. How far would you guys go in mimicking a popular blog?

I think that would depend largely on which blog you are mimicking. I could see many straightlaced webmasters getting upset and becoming problematic.

However, you're onto a winner as John Chow seems to be quite a fan judging by the post on his blog about your site.

Nice effort, keep it up. John is taking this well, because you guys are raising his “Brand Name” even further, after all there is no such thing as bad publicity :)

That was my bet, John is smart enough to see that if this would become a success, it'd reflect on his blog. The buzz is quite amazing, online for just a week and already over 110 members on mybloglog, listed in the hot communities and alexa reported us as 13,985th most popular site yesterday :)

With the problems that John Chow has had with Google recently I think you should set your next challenge as outranking him for his own name :D

It depends upon your goals. For the short term, it is timely and sure to attract a good amount of visitors. But for the long term, it is faddish and you will have to figure out a way to move on, once the subject matter becomes passe. But good luck!

I don't think this will work well in the long run.
    Hopefully I'm wrong.

    I love that site! :D

Yeah, as long as you pick the right blogger. And if you're not making anyone look bad, there's probably not a problem. Only if someone was way too uptight and thought you were violating trademarks (although the parody might be fair use anyway.)

If you do more of these that are as good as johncow, I suggest doing it (for my entertainment)! :)

I would come up with my own brand, and do a Dave Chapelle type deal where I make fun of famous internet people.
