Do you think that linking to a page with lower PR will hurt your PR? Is it because the PR bleeds to the lower page? What effect does this have on your rankings, if any? Just curious...
You link for the sake of providing information to your readers. PR should be the last concern when you link out.
If it is not a linkfarm you won't have problems otherwise noone will link and the authority sites linking to low pr sites would suffer from it.
No it won't. You do not bleed PR to the external pages you link to. You only bleed PR to internal pages tha you link to in your domain.
pr will pass from high pr web pages to low pr web pages. because of this, if you link to a page which low pr, your pr will decrease
I have to disagree. PR is only affected by incoming links. PR is not affected by outbound links, and that's all there is to it, really. So other matters aside (like linking to bad neighborhood etc) your PR will NOT decrease or "leak" through outbound links. A page's PR is shared between all other links on a page, but that's a different story, and anyway the PR of the page in question is never affected by this. Just google for Google patents/Google PR formula for proof. The PR formula makes it crystal clear your PR is not affected by outgoing links, ever. Warkot
That's quite true but only for internal pages. This is how your internal pages gets PR. But your PR doesn't pass to external pages.
Ok so I get you so far, but what about gaining links off of of a PR page with many outbound links. Does mean the PR is spread evenly between the outbound links? Or are you saying that PR does not pass externally?
Your PR does not pass externally. Google determines how much PR an external link will get based on relevancy and number of outbound links, etc. It does not take your PR and pass it among those outbound links.

So if www.some-site.com offers you to buy a link from them on page X which is PR5, and this page X has 10 other links (internal AND external, doesn't matter), the PR of page X will be spread evenly between 11 links, including your own. So the ideal -- in terms of PR -- link you can get is from a PR10 page that has no outbound links other than yours BUT: This doesn't mean page X will "leak" PR, or that the PR of page X will decrease. The PR value of page X (5 in our example) does not depend on how many outbound links it has. Its PR value ONLY depends on INBOUND links. Of course PR is passed externally. No. I don't think a low PR link partner going to hurt your site PR. The only thing you may concern about, is the quality content of the site you want to exchange links with. You may also research to know with which site that site links with. If you have a computer related site for example, it may be good to mainly link with a computer related site. You may avoid to link with illegal or perverse site like porn sites if your site is not related to it.
No it wouldn't at all hurt ur rankings unless the site is penalised or banned by Google. If you don't link out, how do you think new sites will grow? Moreover, linking out is a good thing. Just don't overdo it.
Warkot is right in. Pr is passed through links but it doesn't matter if you link to a site with high or low pr. The pr your site pass on through the link will stay the same. By linking out you do however send pr from your site that without the link to another site would be passed down to your subpages and potentially back to the main page again since the sub pages link to the main page.
