Hi, I've been submitting my site to a lot of directories and so 80% of my backlinks come from directories. The pages the links appear on have a lot of my keywords, but still, they are directories. How is this going to effect my PR/SERPs results? Can google detect this or is it blind to whether the link is from a directory or 'normal' link? Thanks! and reps for good advice.
If you use SEO friendly directories and proper link text, they will help a little. Google does know the links are from directories and they don't pass much link juice anymore. On the other hand, Google expects to see these types of links for new sites. Directory links won't hurt you, but you'll need to get better, relevant links at some point to get higher ranking.
Won't hurt, unless you submit to 10000 directories within 24 hours Won't help that much neither. Try looking for relevant partners and exchange links with them.
Yes, that is too high. I would suggest using maybe 20-30% directories as this looks totally unnatural. More importantly build at a steady rate. If you get 50 links this month ... you should get 60 next month and so on. This also looks natural. G is not blind to directories, they have had their eyes on them a while. Directories serve a purpose but for most sites that purpose is getting the sites indexed, not ranked well.
Directory links except for Dmoz, Yahoo and a few others are not of significant value in terms of improving your ranking score. IMO directories may be good for getting your new site indexed - but for ranking benefit, I will recommend that you get relevant links from authority sites on your topic.
Get real. A text link is still a text link. If the "linked-from" page is indexed in Google, it counts.
What's important is having your keyword in text links. Where they come from is less important than how many there are on indexed sites. They shouldn't be the only link-building strategy, but they help more than I see people here giving credit to if you've picked the right keywords to rank for.
I know from experience that you are wrong. If you tried using directories to improve your SERPS and failed - its because you did something wrong. Keep trying buddy.
Everyone have been submitting to directories and Google knows this fact...so over the years it has started giving less and less value to these links even though they will appear and count towards your back-links but Pr value is not transfered as expected.
It depends on how Google sees each site. There are some PR8, PR9 sites that Google doesn't let them pass PR points, and they are NOT directories.
every type of the backlink will have dirrecfent weigth. it's allways better to have all types of backlinks to avoid from serp changes
