The issue for G (and this community) is very simple; they have totally shot themselves in the foot with the PR toolbar and they are trying to find a way to force nofollow on directory owners as a way to get extricate themselves from the Frankenstein they created.

I suspect they would like to see a return to the golden era of directories that provided real traffic to its clients; and there's the rub - they don't know where to start on rebuilding the algo to accommodate that.

google says directories that has good editing principles are good directories. on my bidding directory i have refunded a lot of $$ that i have earned so far, because i don't accept just any website.
yes it is auto-approve, and then i check those links, and then remove the bad ones and make the refunds!
    cheers!:)

It is good that you delete the links afterwards but I will still be worried about Auto approve feature as it sends wrong impression. I think PHPLB script developer should think of disabling that feature making it more like regular directory script.

    Thanks, Princy

I'm not worried. I've stuck to google guidelines. Its a directory at the end of the day, with a twist in it to provide extra traffic to those who want it.

If it was true then two of the few PR7 directories would not be bidding directories.

If google was to ban or strip bidding directories of their PR, i would fly to the USA and complain in person.

Remove all the "buy a links" phrases link i stated in my blog, and you should be safe. if you look like a link farm accepting all sorts of spam then its a different matter.

As for the auto approve links, i am online so many hours a day its not a problem. I have never had to remove a casino/spammy link, but if one came in i would have removed it within the hour, unless i was asleep:)

Rumors rumors rumors, meanwhile google takes precious data of dmoz and dmoz is an directory right ? And they won't do something against dmoz for sure. So why do something against other directories ? Some hidden interest that we don't know :p?

paidhosting you have an agenda.. i dont know why you have this vendetta but it looks like something personal with someone/people involved in them
i dont know why you do this but its obvious theres something else going on

personally i am not sure as to how bid directories will be seen by google but i wouldnt have one or pay to be listed
i think there is much better value for the same money in other forms of promotion

    Yes, it's true.

I'm sure people have reported the big names many times due to jealousy, but I doubt anything will happen.

Paid Links make Google keywords competitive and drive a huge business for webmasters.

Google won't do anything unless these sites migrate towards spam farms of viagra links, etc.

    Take your Zoloft and relax.

    Hello..

    I guess i see it differently... ;)

"Paid Links" has a total different meaning Here in this thread from what it was referred to at "matts blog",
as the main issue their revolved around sites buying links PR 8-9-10s to increase Page Rank and NOT for Traffic sake (advertising),
but for the High PR which they would receive and which caused inflated PR and as well irrelevant sites showing up in their algo...

    http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/how-to-report-paid-links/

    * Skit *

Q: Now when you say “paid links,” what exactly do you mean by that?
Do you view all paid links as potential violations of Google’s quality guidelines?

A: Good question. As someone working on quality and relevance at Google, my bottom-line concern
is clean and relevant search results on Google. As such, I care about paid links that flow PageRank and attempt to game
    Google’s rankings
. I’m not worried about links that are paid but don’t affect search engines.
    So when I say..
“paid links” it’s pretty safe to add in your head
“paid links that flow PageRank and attempt to game Google’s rankings.”

    And to be honest...

Ive rarely run across many spammy sites that had to pay for anything
as about 90% of spam submissions wont pay to be included in anything..

    thx

I think you should worry only if the reason why you went for bidding directories is solely for PR or link power. IF you just want more exposure for advertising purposes, you will not have tp worry about that..

Honestly just answer this question " Do you buy links for the juice or the traffic ? " You do not have to say it out loud, but be true to yourself for once guys !! Hopefully that will clear all doubts . That would be the day, when google bans all sites linking to other sites without nofollow tag, than i would like to see how many actually buy links or sell links !!!! I will come back to this thread and will see how useless this thread was once again.
