How long does it take?

This is probably a really noob question, but I am one, so it's appropriate.

I have a blog, it's been up for two weeks. Traffic is pretty much non-existent so far, beyond friends. I've been submitting to blog directories/RSS feeds, and am indexed by Google. It's a somewhat competitive keyword, but not too much. And nobody's attacking it the way we are.

The question is... how long does this all take? People talk about the techniques, and getting indexed, and getting links, and so on... but nobody talks about how long it takes to get results. Obviously, there's no definitive answer to this. But, am I just impatient (possible)? Is expecting any sort of traffic after two weeks entirely unreasonable? Or should I start seeing people come in?

    yes you are impatient.

One of my sites it took nearly 10 months of hard work building links before I started seeing the benefits. Now, nearly 2 years later I get around 2,000 uniques/day from the Search engines and feature in #1 spot for over 50 keywords relating to my niche.

Building a site is simple, making it succesful is a lot of hard work that takes many months.

It took me around two months to start seeing results with a new website of mine. I used a domain that had been previously used for a site in my niche and then dropped. Since the domain had already been indexed on Google before, I think it helped me get results faster.

If you get the proper high quality links, you can shorten the "sandbox period" significantly....

just a side note.....high PR does not equal high quality..

How are you promoting your Web site? I don't mean submitting to directories, buying links or anything like that. I mean how are you getting the word out about your site?

i think getting good traffic may get 3 months to one year , if you are making a good promotion for your site

    Telling friends, forum signatures.

Basically, the "promotion" part is something we're having a hard time with. I can submit links until I'm blue in the face (and I have been). We're not buying links, at all. Unless I'm missing the obvious, I've never seen people talk about HOW these things are promoted. Only that they do it. I've basically been working my butt off on the search engine side of things, for now.

Once we get some content (my wife is writing it, since she's the expert in the field), we're going to move on to places like Yahoo answers & Netscape, and hopefully get the word out.

    Any other suggestions for us?

It should be showing the link in my blog field up top.
