The most expensive ads cost €20,000 for a single day. And that's only for the Scandinavian market. With ad revenues from the entire planet the bottom line is even more attractive. The money is channeled through a company in Switzerland sharing an address with another company specialising in tax planning. The controversial file sharing site The Pirate Bay is far from the innocent hobby project cofounders Fredrik Neij and Gottfrid Svartholm want people to think. The police investigation of The Pirate Bay is about violations of copyright law because the file sharing site helps Internet users share files with copyright protected material. The police will investigate how ad revenues are managed and if tax is paid. If the prosecutor can show that the site is being run commercially the suspects risk a harder punishment than if it's just a hobby project. 'The authors of the law spoke of one year in prison. The maximum penalty is two years', says prosecutor Håkan Roswall. The past four months the Swedish company Eastpoint Media have sold ads for The Pirate Bay for an average of €60,000 per month, according to sales manager Luar Busó. The police raid on 31 May resulted in even more visitors to the site and prices for ads went up accordingly. 'The biggest ads today cost €20,000 and so far we've sold four', says Luar Busó. I'm sorry but I did not understand what you're trying to say with this thread? For a second there you sounded like someone hired by Hollywood to bad mouth the Pirate Bay. Here on DP most of us have sites and we make money of them so I don't see why the Pirate Bay shouldn't be allowed to do so as well. They aren't breaking the law, Swedish law that is, so should be entitled to do what ever they think fit. The reason I and many others like me appreciate the Pirate bay's work is that they stood up to what they believed in and didn't give up just because a few rich guys decided to take them on.
Actually I was just trying to show they're making a ton of money.. no agenda.. I'd like to be making that kind of money..
how do they never get closed down? thats what i always wonder..i read long time back..how the authorities closed down their site..and they managed to get it online from another server in anotehr country and the amount of visitors nearly tripled!! lol.. how do they manage to even run the site when the feds, and othe authorities clearly are against them?
Yes I guess we all wish that. I had an idea that they might be making some nice income but never thought it would be that much. They manage to run their site because they haven't broken the law. The US government has tried to force the Swedish Government to close the Pirate Bay down but that would be against the law in Sweden. Unfortunatly that's not the case here in Portugal, if the US government tells us to jump we ask how hi!!!
I heard somewhere that those guys raising funds to buy a own island so they wouldn't be forced about Piracy laws.
the Pirate Bay is hosted in sweden thats why it is protected, they do not host any copyrighted stuff for download and therefore are not breaking any swidish laws. but samantha..everyone knows.. torrent sites dont themeselves host anything..but what they help spread.. so tha tmeans if i host a warez/torrent site in sweden..its not against their country laws? awesome..but sweden is way too far for me lol... samantha..i just read those emails..they are pretty darn funny! lol..especially the one from Apple lol...these guys got some nerve!
syedwasi87, you are right there, there are tons of torrent sites here in Sweden, and actually you are doing nothing against the law, as long as you do not host files.. I'm from Sweden, and that's how the system works here.
yeah its easy..tho u need dedicated server..if u plan to go high time.. hmm..i didnt know of this.. what all other countries are there like swedish laws? ..
No country I am aware of.. However, you could grab a offshore server somewhere, and manage to go far.
my mom was from Sweden, way up north in a place called Umeå, i was born in Denmark, thats how i know the law in Sweden. and i also use The Pirate Bay
