it has to be phpLD every time. Unless you want a bidding directory, use phpLB

Problam with that thread is its closed and only presents 3 scripts, and they aren't really the best examples, there's a ton out there better than phpld, esyndicat and site-sift as they can cost a fortune to mod.

Depends on how you want to customize your directory as well. If you want a script with all features built in the phpLynx is the one to go for but again it really is down to personal choice and how much you want to spend out.

The best one is PhpLd, then comes Esyndicat.. then follows cplinks, PhpLynx & lots more... Just Google them...

i would say phpld, maybe because i know it better from the inside and that's a plus .. big community using it means easier access to solve problems .. but if you start from zero, the others cited here are also good choices.

I always find it puzzling with the claims phpld is the best, no disrespect to the script it had its place at one time but all you have to do now is look at the comparison chart here, facts speak for themselves.

IMO, the best one is PhpLd, then is esyndicat.

It would be cool if you could support that conclusion based on the features and cost of each script jetbrains, (by that I mean including hidden costs). :)

Sure we're all bias towards certain scripts but I'm probably the only one that ever backs his comments up with facts, just like the one in my last post where the...

...say's it all. Sure I work for the phpLynx team so have a vested interest in promoting it to the max but I still have to back up my statements with facts.

It's not in any newcomers interests to be misled into thinking that the most popular following means the best script, it just means it has the best following. ;)

Same old topic being hashed out yet again. Albeit a good discussion topic, it will always end up in each discussant pleading his/her case for this script or that script.

It all comes full circle to the directory owner and what he/she feels is the right price, has the right options and flexibility and which script they feel comfortable with in everyday use as well as admin useage.

Every script out there will have; either already built in, through a mode/sustomization or future add-on..the nearly the same features if not the exact same features as the next script.

Look at it this way...at least we all have a huge selection to pick and choose from. I personally run seeral of the scripts and I personaly think some do more than others and that some scripts have better features than others. On the same note of equality in features....the scripts that have the same feture sets/options..some work better than others as well.

So as a directory owner/user, do your own homework and test the ones that interest you the most. Each script vendor has their own website and most generally either offer an online demo or free version you can download and play with. While your testing them out, be sure to also include in your homework a note to the script support site/ticket system and judge how quickly you get an answer as well as read through the support forum and see the questions/answers. This is also crucial so if you select a script, you know that you can rely on the support.

    Great post tom,

being honest tom post like this gets kind of boring and if I never knew better you'd swear they were pre-planned posts, as invariably you get loads of people pile in on about how good phpld is but don't mention the facts about it, (you don't see it so much with other scripts) but when the lone ranger of phplynx (me) throws down the challenge for them to back why these people think script A is so good no-one ever does, is it because they can't.

In all honesty I couldn't care less what script people use just as long as they are advised correctly and that means telling them the hard facts of how much a script costs, what features it has, what kinda support and so on so the newbie can make a learned decision.

You look at all the posts on this thread saying "phpld is the best" and not one of them can back it up why! They call me flippin annoying but hey at least I back my case with the facts.

I'll keep doing it to but never disrespecting other scripts. I may point out thier downsides and limitations just like I'll concede to the phpLynx script maybe having some.

We're supposed to be around to help people make the right choice not bullshit or bully them, backing claims would be good for everyone not just me.

As An0n said once before and I agree, the best script is yet to come.

Right now phpld is the best value I have seen but be prepared to have lots of mods installed.

my vote goes to Hands Down

    phpLD v3

This is The Most Popular Directory Script at this moment which have tons and tons and tons of mods available.

I think its worth to pay 25$ for a paid version.

they do have free version also.

Phpld is the most popular thats why have the most plugins around compared to any other directory. Yes its a fact ...

There are tons and tons and kazillion free templates available for phpLD..

i think templates created by me for phpLD, Syed Balkhi, outnumbers the TOTAL free templates of many new scripts including phpLynx.

Support for phpLD is great... and if you open your eyes many big directories are using either phpLD or their custom script. Now you have a choice.

Some very high pr sites using phpLD

    Alive Web Directory
    Aviva Web Directory
    eWebpages Web Directory
    Directory Dump Web Directory
    Global Internet Directory
    Link Book Web Directory
    Forplex Web Directory
    KwikGoblin Web Directory
    Bloggeries Web Directory

and many other big directory owners uses phpld

Lastly, My own Genuine Paid Web Directory is using phpLD.

Many free and paid mods are available.. Many designers / coders are familiar with the script and can work on it to make custom mods for you.

Script admin panel is very easy to use and extremely user friendly. Pretty safe as we have seen index script lately which has been getting hacked.

    I recommend you phpLD :)

P.S: Phoenix maybe other people does not think that a script B is better because some people from those script keep attacking other members in many communities getting the whole script a bad reputation.
