Does the quality score/history obtained by a management company transfer accross to managed accounts? or have any effect what so ever?

    Just a thought

Smudger, I would have thought it would depend on the transfer process.

If one account is closing and another is being opened then I'd expect to start from 'scratch' as it were. On the other hand, if the campaign is running uninterrupted and is merely coming under a manager then I see no reason for anything to change.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'or have any effect whatsoever'? The Quality Score has a big effect on the CPC of any keyword and is also used to determine ad ranking so it's probably one of the most important elements!

Cheers Cobnut, I understand the importance of the Quality Score I was looking at a quick win for clients to adopt an agency. As I understand it like in SEO the actual calculation of the QS is not publicly avalible and contains elements such as historical QS (could be wrong) and wondered the effect the recruitment of a AdWords agency could have on the clients score.

same. I just signed up to adwords and the closest thing i can see is the ' Health Meter'. Is that the same as the Quality Score? It just has a tick next to it with in brackets you won't see your ad on every search. - this is because i'm only bidding $0.01 whilst i explore the tool

There are a few people that have written guides to Quality Score.

    Here's mine: http://www.epiphanysolutions.co.uk/google-adwords/maximising-your-google-adwords-quality-score

Basically, it's a measure of how relevant your advert is to the person searching. The more relevant your advert is, the higher Google wants it to appear. They penalise you if it's poor, and reward you if it's very good.

Note that the quality score for your keywords is, by default, not displayed in your account. You'll need to go to your keywords tab, then choose 'Customise Columns' and click on the 'Display Quality Score' in order to see it.

As Custard says it's essentially a gauge of the 'quality' of each keyword as it relates to the searched term and your ad group but the exact formula(s) are state secrets. In fact, there's more than one type of Quality Score, as described here:

    Hey Smudger,

Your quality score is made up of many factors. One of the main ingredients is the account history, landing page, CTR etc.. Account history does place a big part. If I understand you question correctly are you doing this for a client that already has a established account? If so contact the google rep for the account and let them know that the account is being managed or transfered over so that your quality score will not be dinged as a new account. Remember there are many other factors that effect the quality score. If you need any help just PM.

    Cheers,

If you help Google make money, you'll have a good quality score... In other words, Just provide valuable stuff to Google users and you'll be fine.

Here's the short version. Google calculates quality score using the following criteria.

    • Keyword relevance
    • Ad copy relevance
    • Landing page relevance
    • Click through rate (CTR)
    • Keyword performance history
    • Other relevance terms Google will not share
