What in the world did you get an infraction for??

The only things I ever read in the WSJ were business related so I have never paid attention to anything else. So I always thought it was exclusively business and didn't know it even had normal headlines - sort of like being ad blind I guess?!?!?

I don't personally like Murdoch's huge asset control, but that in itself does not make this wrong, but being that he supports liberals as well as conservatives financially, I don't see were people on the left hate him so much. From what I can tell it is their perception that foxnews is evil for trying to be more balanced and actually giving positive news on conservatives which just can't be allowed.....

My problem with him, substantively (and not the problem I posted above) is that I think he is shooting for the lowest common denominator in much of what he does - sound bites, flash, gimmickry, appealing to a country already expectant of having thought delivered rather than thought provoked. I don't think we need any more of this in our country. I absolutely love hearing credible, opposing sides - from Edmund Burke to George Will, whom I generally respect a good deal. Will, and others like him, is a thoughtful, seasoned analyst. I will hear him anytime.

Hahahah - my infraction. I'm afraid I allowed my more colorful word usage to get the best of me over a thread on jews - the same evening I laid into a couple of fellas' thinking they were being funny over beating their wives. I deserved it, absolutely.

Now are you talking about foxnews, foxnews.com, or something else? I don't currently have cable so the sites is all I can see and each has a different format some of which I like and some I hate. I am talking about foxnews, cnn, msnbc, latimes, nytimes, etc... I hate that CNN headlines are mostly video without links to text and foxnews has a really cheesy program obviously directed towards the college crowd, probably trying to pull liberals in since it is very immature and all about sex from what I can tell. They even appear to be on something or a bit drunk on the show.

As far as thought provoking - what news channel does that? I am sure they each have a show or two, but not when just showing the news. The news isn't necessarily a thought provoking subject, not that it can't be, but to report was has happened is what the news is suppose to do, not invent what they think caused it or how it is Bush's fault some lady keeps killing her babies.

Let me be clear that I don't think Murdoch is alone - I think news, generally, in the United States blows. We are too much concerned with the techniques of showmanship in news delivery and too little concerned with the substance of what is happening in the world today. The Today Show does Paris Hilton; so that we all vicariously wish we could do Paris Hilton (myself and present company excepted, I'm sure), rather than see the state of our world; by comparison, I enjoy watching Deutsche-Welle, and other services, for example. There isn't a sound bite every 2 seconds, stories are told with time and care, and you learn something substantive.

No, not the only; I just think Murdoch is the worst in a line extending from Patriarch Hearst to now. News as slick package, and just as useless.

CNN, FOX NEWS, MSNBC are mislabeled. They're not news stations! They're entertainment media.

When I want to watch the news, I watch the 1/2 hour BBC News at 10 PM on PBS.

BTW- I blame Bush for that bridge collapse in MN.

I've found PMSNBC to be the most opinionated show out there, especially that Keith Olbermann has been sportscaster guy... ick...

Headline News is pretty cool.. They just seem to report the news, over and over again.. I hate commentary and opinion no matter what side of the isle it is coming from.. Just report the news!!!

    Now that is some entertainment...
Of course.. I would like to ad to that, Global Warming as well!!!!

    That is funny :D

I don't think I'd hold up the BBC as the epitome of virtue, itself. Like the NYT and other major publications, it has its share of problems and biases.

Quite agree with you, except when I want news I watch the looney tunes Show for half an hour, instead of BBC...

BTW - I blame Aliens from outer space for that bridge collapse in MN

The filthy terrorist scumbag Bush is responsible for thousands upon thousands of innocent deaths but we can't really blame him for this one. Unless there was oil under that bridge. ;)

    Dude, STFU!

You don't even live in the US! Trust me, Bush and the N**on Gang are responsible. The truth will come out sooner or later!

Are Halliburton or Betschel responsible for rebuilding the bridge?

If not then there is no way at all that Bush or Cheney are responsible for this tragedy.

Well...there is a thread entitled, "What could the US have done with the money it has spent on the war in Iraq?" And here is an interesting little story:

Tens of thousands of U.S. bridges rated deficient; repair costs estimated in the billions

So putting two and two together, you get to the greedy usual suspects. Of course you could also put two and two together to get five and blame Al Qaeda ;)

Some peeps are even claiming it is the sheer volume of traffic being the problem. There was nowhere near the volume of traffic 30 years ago when these bridges were built and these SUV's (Stupid UselesslyOverwightForTakingTheKidsToSchool Vehicles) add to the weight no doubt, especially with obese kids in the back. :(

No way dude, just do what any religious person does when something happens they don't understand. Blame God!

That way there doesn't actually have to be a rhyme or reason for it...

Sorry dude, I'm no God's man..
I am an agnostic, so God doesn't exist for me. Therefore I cant blame someone that doesn't exist.

But I'm really shocked to see the entire bridge collapsing, don't they have enough security measures (Like Regular inspections and sensors to detect cracks and displacement of concrete blocks)?

I'm interested to know the cause behind this collapse..

Yes, they do. Problems were found. The solution. Spend 122 million dollars and build a new bridge, or not. They chose the latter.

The real irony here is that states like Wisconsin and Minnesota have been ass raping their residents for several years with gas taxes. These "gas taxes" are supposed to be put back into our roads and infrastructure.. Sadly it seems all this increased revenue has gone somewhere else.

I see it every day in Wisconsin... We used to have some of the best roads around.. Now we are starting to look like another Illinois... What's next? Tolls?
