i read it all the time:

Dont use automatic directory submission and/or submission-programs.

It's bad if you submit to 1000s of engines with the same anchor text since Google will see its obviously done automatically, therefore SPAM.

Really rather skip directory submission and rather write some good articles and submit them to ezine....and focus on blogs and ping/submit your blog to bookmarking sites. WAY BETTER.

Not to sure with this one... I understand that it would be better using a varierty of anchor texts, but I would think Google penalize for using the same anchor because it doesn't at all suggest the submission is automated. Infact it makes life a whole lot easier using the same site details when manually submitting websites to directories.

if you are making manual submission to directories, it's good for seo.

but you may get problems while you are using automatic submissions

    No links will hurt.

Wont get penalized or in trouble for any type of directory submission and no matter how many you do and what anchor text you use.

Don't listen to everything you read. Even if you did submit to 1000 directories, you won't get accepted in all of them, and when you are included, it usually occurs over the span of a few weeks/months.

It you reg a new domain, submit to 3000 directory with the same anchor text and stop building new link, it is going to look fishy

however, if you have link from all source, submitting to directory will be good for you.

just like aaron said, no link can hurt, unless you link back to them

Bit off-topic, but are blog a lot better than static sites? I've been contemplating whether to use wordpress and have x number of posts or a static site with x number of articles?

Thanks GeorgR. Maybe I'll keep my static sites and add a blog and keep updating that, whilst cross referencing to the static pages.

Using same Titles and Description for directory submission can effect badly. So use multiple anchors.
