Does anyon has read articles on the effect of the registration time on the search results. I paid my domain for 5 years in advance because I heard that somewhere. But did any SEO measure this effect already?

Its the age of the domain, not how long it is paid in advance. An older domain has more trust with google.

I read that it would matter: "people that pay in advance have serieus intentions and get more trust'. Older domains I do understand and I thik has been proven... but would future registration not help?

I have read this. I have also read that Google downgrades domains that are due to expire in less than a year, because a lot of quick-buck spam sites are only registered for one year.

theres nothin like if you pay in advance for 10 years your domain will be worth millions..

its more of the domain age..how long its been registered continuosly that matters..

and ofcourse the domain name itself matters..if its a premium one..then expect a lot more than you reg fee :)

heard it , tried it but could not see any positive effect but it is always better to register for a long time , you won't pass the registration dates.

The age of domain matters in SEO, but when the domain is already OLD and not when you purchase the domain for more years. You can purchase the domain name even for the minimum (1 year) and renew the domain each ear, and after 5 years your domain name will be still 5 years old (unless it expired and dropped during that period). Bigger companies that do find good domain names (but not only bigger companies, even single person that finds a good domain name) prefers to register the domain for more years but that is just for protection .

Concluding, age of domain has importance in SEO when it is already old.

It is believed by many that the longer your domain is registered for the better it is perceived as being a serious venture.... All my serious projects have their domains registered for multiple years..... some for 10 years ahead...

The whole idea of Google giving some kind of boost to people who register their domains for more than a year was silly from the get-go. Who came up with that crap?

Not true. This was included last year I think, but only for domains that are registered from today, 1 year.

I think domain age help but only when it has content on it!! registering your domain name and having nothing on it for 5 years does not do you any good.

last time i talked to someone at godaddy - they tried to tell me this. They said that having it being total of years from the time registered until the time it expires is best i.e. 5 years or more. However I asked them to send me the articles - and I read them - they were both from 2005........ neither specified a time frame. They did however talk about the patent application that specified that domain registration total time was a factor.

I read several articles saying this.
Then I checked all good sexy ranking sites, they are all registered for looooooooooooooooooong like minimum 5 years more!

I saw even DP is registered till 2012 i think....

So, I am going to try this out, If the site makes me earn more, then not a bad idea to try this thing, if it works, its awesome if it doesnt, its still not bad...5 years registerations means around $40........not bad!

It is the other way around. All those "sexy ranking sites" have already developed them into profitable websites, so it is natural for them to renew the domains for a long time to avoid the hassle of doing it every year.

Even if G patents it, it doesn't mean much. Companies patent crazy ideas all the time, and who knows they might even implement it someday, but the simple fact of having a patent over an idea is in no way an indication that it is already in use. Not to mention one good PR0 link is probably worth alot more than a 10-yr registration.
