Most of you guys know Google SERPs have been topsy-turvy over last couple of months. While most of you might have figured the reason- some might not have. Well Google is re-vamping almost all its algos. I have been following very closely- the developments/changes over last 5/6 weeks . I have come to the conclusion that -- Google has found its best algo -- THAT IS - to put trusted/old/quality sites on top. Here is an example-- The Keyword/Keyphrase is -- Cheap Air Tickets -you might guess the competition of this words and the strength of the competitors because it smells billions of $$$ involved for top ranking. ( to me -personally - a competitive keyword should be judged by the strength of competitors and not just the overture search numbers/or Google search results) The companies that appear on top 10 for these keywords must have millions each to fund their SEOing. Out of them 9 are authority sites with 4 site-links showing bellow the main URL ( please check the URL without WWW). I can see only one non-authority site without authority ranking -- #9. I also checked the next 10 results --and most of them are sub-pages of authority sites--or authority sites themshelves. I have also searched many such competitive keyword ( pls refer to my definition of competition) --and found the same. What more-- Wikipedia -that is ranked on top for any word under the sun is no-where to be seen --such is the competition. http://72.14.235.104/search?hl=en&q=cheap+air+tickets&btnG=Google+Search So do you also think --Google is giving much more weight to quality than proper SEOing?
This is what google should be doing in the first place.. quality over 'proper SEO'ing'... since people are looking for quality results when serching for specific keywords, not for sites that have good SEO.
Agreed 100%. This should be the perfect Google algo--preferring quality sites over manipulation by SEO firms like SEOMOZ. Whatever we dislike about Google, the new SERPs results are really encouraging.
