Just curious as to why people use this so much when the service stopped being updated in January 2007. Results showing now are 6 months old and the older they get, the more useless they become. Why do people still swear up and down by this tool?

Because it's the only tool that gives quantity on searches for keywords, on the entire internet.

If I'm wrong (and I hope I am) PLEASE tell me where a better alternative is!

Accurate when it was still being updated yes, but how can people judge there marketing campaigns with old stats that the tool now provides.

Also, it's sad that SO MANY keyword software apps were written to use that very database.

    :(

Why do people use it? Maybe in the past it actually was useful and people don't want to let go?

I use Google Adword's keyword tool anyway. I've read bad things about the Overture Keyword Tool as far as being accurate goes.

This is what I'm talking about... BOTH of those tools USE the Overture keyword database for it's results, like many many other online keyword tools and even software like KeywordsAnalyzer.

Yes I see a lot of these tools all pulling from overture, at one time it was a great tool but out dated and useless now unfortunetly in my opinion. Just was looking for opinion's from other readers was all.

Yes, that's probably the best answer. Most people use Overture and don't even know about that!

Keyword Enchanter no longer use Overture as it's main source, it now uses WordTracker, though the Overture based tool continues to exist in the archive for reference purposes.

It may not be 100% accurate, but it still paints a somewhat accurate picture of search results in many niches. The amount of people searching for crocheting is not going to change extensively from 2007 to 2008, but technology or news related searches certainly will.

If you're niche is time sensitive, stay away from overture.

I use it for the list of keyword phrases and the "priority order" that it is in. No one should take the number of clicks as accurate. If you copy and paste this list into Google, the search volume is different but the priority order is still very close.

This is just a great starting point.
