Will I loose PR if I redo my site completely? Currently it is at PR4 and I was thinking of changing the script to a CMS but I am afraid I will loose PR
if the backlinks are pointing to pages that will be lost in the change, then it's possible (not all links point to the front page)
Add another new section to the site, and keep existing pages, that's one solution - i did this to a number of sites
if the sites that link to your site link to the main domain...like yourdomain.com it shouldnt be a problem, though if you have inner pages like xyz.htm or xyz.php which mostly wont be the same name after redoing..might mean loss of Backlinks..and eventually PR...
Technically you don't loose the page rank on those pages, because if the URLS change, what you are doing is creating new pages. If you really must change the URLS, then 301 redirect the old URLs to the new ones.
your pr will not change because pr is related with your backlinks. if your backlinks does not changes , your pr will not change
Can anyone recommended a site where I can check my backlinks? I tried http://www.iwebtool.com/ but it says 0 backlinks. Could this be right?
that would be nearly impossible especially if one is doing a complete redesign of the site.. everything would change.
if you 301 redirect your old site and the content remains generally the same, then it might go down at first while google is re-finding your back links, but it will eventually go back up.
The PR of the root domain will stay the same. e.g. www.site.com However if you are using a cms it is likely to be using php. If you index page is index.htm, then you will have no PR on www.site.com/index.php until the next update. Likewise with the rest of the pages if the names and extensions change.
Go ahead and do it, even entire website changing won't affect your PR however you need to redirect the old URL's using 301 to the newly created URL's, specially if those inner pages have any PR value. Afterall your SERP's might suffer but you will recover after a while
