Do you Think that google should Clasifiy Directories as Link Farms?

hmmmm how do you feel about blog links?

Are they as valuable? depends i guess were they come from...
If they have a nice PR then i would imagine google thinks its
worth something..
Now do i think that ALL blogs are Qualty? Nooo
As i cant see the guy selling 3000 blogs posts for $5 bucks doing
more then becoming a blog link farm...

Did i say all blogs are link farms?

NO i research then come to my conclusion...

Nothing personal, but I haven't heard of any of your directories either, and no I don't own any directory. These are directories I found here on DP that were "Submit your site now"

You mean to tell me your directories don't have pages in supplemental? Are those pages then of no worth? What is your measure of worth anyway? A site with high SERPs? We all know you can buy that or else MFA sites wouldn't rank so well.

Sure there are some crappy directories around but nowhere near 99.9%

So in the end its the guy running the site in question
whether its a directory or a blog...

I only have a small one, but yes they have supp results

Yes , that is correct, they have no worth

And the more page in the supp index the less value a site has, but thats another topic all together

My measure of worth on anything is Value

What value do I receive from something

A directory that has 600 pages and 597 in the supps has no value

How do you know its not 99%

If there is 1 million directories , 1% would be 10,000

and by the looks of the directory forum there is about 1 million directories out there

I do agree about the blog thing as well, 100%

But like I said that a whole nother thread

Go get the news feeds mod as well as offer articles in the catagories
and you will see that your site will be indexed more frequently and out of
supps..

and for anyone who is jumping in now and decided not to read the whole thread..

I am not bashing anyone,

Just hearing what members have to say,

I for one DO , buy directory listings in the RIGHT directories

But after all those "paid link" reports , and white board discussions , I am eager to hear other views

 

That many! Then it could be 99%! I must have just been lucky ... though there were some directories I didn't bother with, especially the ones that require registration as I hate e-mail spammers , and the ones with short descriptions.

 

I totally agree that there are a TON of completely worthless directories out there.

To me there are a few directories that are worth submitting to.

When I choose a directory to submit my sites to I check a few things....

1. I make sure the pages are indexed and indexed often.
2. Check to see if the directory is being promoted.
3. Number of out going reviews on each page.
4. Any site wide links, don't want to see them.
5. Does the directory owner add useful website reviews to their directory.

Three most important factors for me.

6. Does the directory rank well for any competitive keywords. Shows me some serious promotion is in the works.
7. Does the directory owner rewrite every submission or at least change some of the content.
8. Does the directory have unique content besides it's directory reviews.

An example of all this and not to promote my own directory but...

Every listing is totally rewritten or partially rewritten to ensure unique content. I also have 6-7 blogs that consist of unique content on various niches. I even have a page that has free software and eBooks to be downloaded.

This is just an example of what I consider to be unique content. I see other directories that have useful webmaster tools and some other cool stuff. The list that Malcom1 posted earlier consists of some good directories to check out.

 

there are many valuable directories out there. but who knows...google may develop an algo for directories, too. 0

What if Google just left it as is and never bothered to update it?

Check out the google directory, you may notice it's not been updated in nearly two years.

I'm not sure that directories are considered link farms just yet though...but if they continue to stay popular and their numbers continue to grow then they likely will be.

Totally agreed. However Word cloud sites should be classified as link farms
