How should I start affiliate marketing for my software?

I recently launched a site for my new software and am wondering which programs to sign up for, and how exactly to sign up a lot of affiliates.

Also, I would prefer sites that have a paypal payout system.

    Thanks in advance!

Try Clickbank to build your own affiliate program. It's the best choice for most software vendors.

You could get tens of thousands of affiliates when your product get approved :)

Yep. What Henry said. Clickbank is the way to go as far as software affiliate programs go.

How about setting up affiliates privately through DP?

Like giving them a paypal link and keeping track of progress with a spreadsheet.

I prefer this because you actually have a relationship with the person you are working with..

A third option is to find a partner through DP that will build the tracking software for you. Two advantages here: 1) again - you have a relationship with this person and 2) they will take less cut than the big companies...

I think you might do better going with an affiliate program specifically designed for software sales. Most software authors use companies like RegNow and eSellerate to get affiliates. They give you the option of creating try-before-buy downloads. Most people prefer to try software out rather than pay for it without seeing it.

You might find it useful to join OISV which is a group for software vendors. (Sorry, I'm not allowed to post links yet.)
