http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/motorcycle16/ Hi, I have started my own petition on the PM website, requesting for the age you can get a full licence to decrease from 17 to 16, while keeping all other restrictions the same, but make the test harder. This will allow 16 year old's with the full licence to remove their L-Plates and they will be allowed to carry pillion passengers, but only experienced riders will be able to pass the test. What are you opinions on this? I heard that you need 10k petition's for the government to take any notice. Please sign the petition if you agree with this. Rob
No, No, No. I disagree entirely with this. I would rather see 16 year olds driving cars. I have seen too many dangerous stunts on motorbikes by idiotic teenagers. Giving them a motorbike would be a terrible idea. They are dangerous.
My opinion is why should people be allowed to get a full motorcycle licence a whole year younger than they can get a car licence? Does not compute. Don't worry Rob - you'll be 17 before you know it!
Did you miss something? I said "keeping the engine size limit the same". 50cc is the current limit for 16 year olds, and there is only 1 motorbike which is cheap and 50cc, and that is the Aprilia RS 50. The pillion seat on that is VERY hard and VERY uncomfortable on that bike (from personal experience). Rob
That is why i said " make the test harder". So that chavs and yobs can't carry passengers. In all honesty, generalisation like this is pathetic. I am not a chav, and i drive a scooter. Rob
Sorry if you didn't understand what I said. Nowhere did I say that all people that drive scooters/motorbikes are chavs and yobs. What I am saying is that doing as you say will enable chavs/yobs to have the ability to create more trouble.
I would have to say NO. Here in Oregon a driver of a car has to be a certain age to take anyone but siblings or adults, that way they are not so distracted by their friends in a car. After the law passed there have been a few that were caught dead or after killing a passenger in the car which only makes people more sure the law is a good one. I can't wait until Oregon has a hands free only cell phone law while driving like they just passed in California. It is another obvious problem for drivers especially young ones like 16 y.o. I should know, I had it as a rule that my son was braking until he totalled his first car. He also hit a few other cars since, because he is so sure that he can talk on a phone and drive, when he can't even talk on a phone and walk!
What do you expect - he is a musician. Only one side of the brain is connect or something? I was being serious about him talking on the phone and doing anything else - just isn't happening.
I truely believe that it is a minority of chavs that have scooters. Chavs also drive cars. Scooters up a hill with a passenger can get, at most, 20mph. I honestly think it will decrease problems with speeding in towns. Rob
